Period all over the place and PMS

I'm 42 and I have a copper coil that I normally get on with just fine, I can live with the heavy periods. But lately my periods have been all over the place and my periods come with old school period pains that I haven't had since I was a teenager. And my PMS is harder to predict as my periods are unpredictable. My PMS has become more "noticeable" after having kids (they are 10 and 7 now), I think it's just down to juggling full time work and family life and the stress that come from that. But I had become quite good ad managing it as I could predict it by looking at the calendar, just knowing that I could become snappy and depressed any time actually worked wonders, as did exercise (lifting weigths). But it seems to have changed.

Any good ideas? I have tried various supplementsicluding B vitamins and agnus cactus in the past, and I read Marilyn Glenvilles book on PMS, great read. I don''t really want to go to the doctor, I think they might offer me hormone treatment or antidepressants, and I would prefer to not just numb symptoms with medication - although I realise that fo rmany people this works well, I am just not ready to go down that route yet.

Is it the first signs of menopause? There is no history of horrible menopause on my mothers side of the family. I am generally in good health, I eat Paleo and don't drink. I get plenty of fresh air and most of the time I exercise.

I am off to bed now, as I woke a 5 this morning and couldn't get back to sleep. Sleep was never a problem for me, but I have found that it has started to become troublesome, if I am stressed, I wake early.
