My son complained 2 days again that his tongue hurt. At first I thought he just bit his tongue as the tip looked red and slightly raised. Then last night he complained again and he had loads of bumps everywhere. We put some bonjela on it and that helped. This morning he didn't get up until 10am and even then we had to wake him. The bumps are still there and his tonsils look bigger - but still not complaining of a sore throat. And possibly his tongue might be a bit swollen as his speech seems a little bit affected.

He isn't running a fever and other than that, he seems normal. Has anybody had experience with this? I hate to leave it til Monday as I don't want it to get worse. Called NHS Direct and waiting to hear back from them - but thought I would come on here first.

Could be hand ,foot and mouth discease
My dd1 had this in the summer and her mouth was very sore and full of ulcers/blisters.

Hand foot and mouth also causes loads of mouth ulcers. Has he got anything on his hands and feet?

fatbetty · 28/10/2006 13:22

Hands and feet seem fine. No other rashes anywhere

Could it be an allergic reaction to something?

belgo · 28/10/2006 13:24

Have you given him calpol - that may help the pain.

fatbetty · 28/10/2006 13:31

I gave him some Medised as he has a bit of a runny nose too. I don't think it's a allergic reaction as I can't think that he has eaten or done anything differently.

I've been reading a bit about hand, foot, and mouth and maybe it's that. I'm pregnant at the moment (due in the 3 weeks time) and don't know if that would cause any problems for the LO. Doesn't seem like they can give antibiotics or anything like that. Sounds like it has to run it's course.

Let us know what NHS direct say!

fatbetty · 28/10/2006 13:45

Hopefully they call us back soon. We thought we would give them a call rather than drag DS1 and DS2 down to A&E.

Went to see a doctor about DS and it looks like it is hand, foot and mouth disease. At least he was seen by a doctor and there isn't much you can do for it. Doctor said a perscription of ice cream. DS will be in heaven!!

Calpol can help soothe the pain. I remember my dd screaming at night with the pain, but she was fine during the day, except that she insisted on feeding herself, she wouldn't let me go anywhere near her with a spoon as her mouth hurt too much.

My 14 month old nephew has had severe mouth ulcers for over a week the paeditrician at the hospital said it's probably a herpes virus or could even be chicken pox.

He seems absolutely fine - but does complain that his tongue hurts and he doesn't seem hungry. Tongue looks worse today but hopefully will get better within the next couple of days. What a horrible virus!!

It is a nasty virus - not serious as such- but very uncomfortable. It only lasted about three days with my dd, so I hope your ds gets better soon and is enjoying his ice cream.
