Hayfever already?

I've been feeling really rough the last couple of days - heavy head, runny nose and a cough that all appear to have come from nowhere.

I suffer badly from hayfever but it's a biy early for that isn't it? I've taken a couple of daynurse pills but it hasn't touched it - I'm starting to worry I might have to start the anti-histamines and it's only early March!

Anyone else?

I've had it for coming up to two weeks now. Constant sneezing, itchy eyes and throat. Even clothes that have been line-dried are setting me off. Haven't taken any antihistamine yet as TTC, can see a long, painful summer ahead of me. Sad

It sucks OP. You're not alone.

froggers1 · 12/03/2015 16:13

And me. Thought it was a cold...but no...gets earlier every year...

dementedpixie · 12/03/2015 16:45

There are antihistamines you can take in pregnancy e.g. loratidine

BabsUnited · 12/03/2015 16:53

really demented?! amazing! I assumed thy were all a no-no. When I was pregnant last time I'm sure I wasn't able to take any, to the point i had to buy some ridiculous rudolph contraption, a non chemical hayfever thing, which had two nostril prongs which emitted red light up my nose Hmm

www.nhs.uk/chq/pages/935.aspx?categoryid=54 nhs info on antihistamines in pregnancy

countrybump · 12/03/2015 17:28

Probably is hayfever then. It's utterly miserable and I know I'm avoiding reaching for the anti histamines because they make me feel a bit spaced out and its hard to concentrate. Only for the first few weeks though, then I seem to adjust to them and don't notice it.

Better bite the bullet and get the antihistamines out then. Costs a fortune being a hayfever sufferer Sad

Some of the problem might be in my own home though! I had to have my much loved dog put to sleep last week, and my lovely friends and family have all let me know they are thinking of me which is very, very kind of them. But my house is full of flowers! Flowers atchooo!

alder trees are 'flowering' now...

countrybump · 12/03/2015 17:32

BabsUnited - I am intrigued by the rudolph contraption! How does shining a red light up your nose help ease hayfever?!

I found my hayfever was better when I was pregnant - which was a bit of a relief as both my children have September birthdays, so I was pregnant throughout the summer both times. Being pregnant every summer is not an option though!

I'm already on nasal steriods. Like others, mine started mid Feb. It's crazy! I've had just 2.5 allergy free months out of the past 12.

iwantgin · 12/03/2015 21:45

I think it can start this early.

I've sort of 'grown out' of mine now, get it now and again. But DS suffers quite badly. No doubt he'll be sniffling and snuffling soon.

Hayfever sucks.

BabsUnited · 13/03/2015 06:54

Countrybump it is this one I think, the description doesn't actually say how it works but a quick google comes up with this: Red nasal light is said to have an antihistamine effect, acting directly on the membranes within the nose to reduce histamine production.

linkie

On another note, pharmacies and Boots do their own brand basic hayfever tablets with the same active ingredients and they are MUCH cheaper. I would just go and ask for Loratidine tablets and without the branding and snazzy box they're much more affordable. Same ingredients.

Hope you find something that works, it's truly miserable.

Thanks for the link demented. It says only as a last resort though, and this next pregnancy will be high risk so I probably won't risk it. Just suffer loudly in silence
