BCG vaccination scar question

DD (2.5) has her BCG booked for tomorrow but I am starting to have second thoughts due to the potential prominence of the scar, does anyone have thoughts? I am totally pro vax just hate my own BCG scar and wondering about inflicting it on her.

Whereabouts are you? Is it an area at high risk of TB?

I had a terrible reaction to my BCG that has left me with a horrible scar but I barely even think about it now. I'm not sure that I would allow the possibility of a scar to influence my decision tbh. She could get lots of other scars over the course of her childhood - falling over/falling off bikes/out of trees etc (if mine are anything to go by!) :)

I had BCG vacc twice and neither time left a scar of any significance.

Are you prone to keloid scarring yourself?

insertinterestingusernamehere · 10/03/2015 19:34

Hi, thanks for answers, we have been offered the jab due to family travelling to countries with high TB risk, but no keloid issue.
Bumble you are right she will get other scars. DH thinks I should get a grip, it's just her little body is so perfect! Sob! Ok I will woman up, have peppa pig magazine ready as a bribe.

Hmm. We were offered it because of relatives being from areas with high TB risk and we declined because we just didn't feel that they posed much of a risk (given that they hadn't been there for years and rarely saw them!) I also had to consider my reaction to it (and DH's) so that influenced our decision too. If you don't think it's urgent then postpone. :)

If you feel that way about scars, maybe you should consider the chicken pox vaccine. I wish I had known about it. Both mine have little scars all over them from the pox. DS has a couple on his face which made me very sad at time, am used to them now, but would still rather they weren't there.

DS had his at 10 weeks. He is now 14 months and still has a scar. But better a scar than TB!

Get it in her thigh rather than her arm.
