Had my 'dodgy' mole checked - it's fine but it's not a mole. WTF? Can anyone enligten me?

I've a mole on my face, some would call it a beauty spot I love it and would be sad to lose it but it had possibly been itching so I went to have it checked out. It's fine, the itching has probably been the eczema I have on my face but I wanted to be sure...

But, and here's the strange bit, the doctor says it's not a mole but some sort of wart??? We weren't speaking English but my grasp of the language is near on perfect and did I double check I'd understood right. DD was with me and agrees that the doctor did say it was 'some sort of wart', twice.

Google gives no results for 'wart' that look anything like it at all - I've had it since childhood and it's not changed at all.

Does anyone have any idea what she could have meant? I can post a photo after the school run if needs be.

I'm lurking because I have a funny thing on my face which isn't a spot and isn't a mole and I have no idea what it is. Had it for years. GP was very uninterested. Mine is kind of like a flesh coloured lump but every now and then it gets redder and itchy and bigger, this often coincides with a real thick stubbly type hair just under the surface.

CMOTDibbler · 09/03/2015 14:04

Could it be a seborrhoeic wart?

VivaLeBeaver · 09/03/2015 14:20

CMOT, I think that's what mine is. Thanks, will see if I can pay to have it removed as its right on my face and often irritated.

MrsLettuce · 09/03/2015 14:48

Thanks! I don't think it's a seborrhoeic wart, it doesn't fit the description at all Confused

It looks exactly like a large, dark, smooth but slightly raised freckle and it always has - have had it since childhood. Shall have a better look at the site you linked to and see if anything matches.

Hmm, very strange. She looked with a dermatoscope so I'm sure she could see properly but it really doesn't look (to the naked eye) like any of the things apart from a mole. Most confusing Confused

I bet it is a seborrhoeic wart. Mine was. Looked just like a large raised freckle. Not like any in that link.

They do grow though

wigglybeezer · 09/03/2015 15:11

Did she call it a naevus, as that is the technical name for a mole.

ProbablyMe · 09/03/2015 15:12

I've loads of them, I was told by my GP when I was in my teens many years ago that they were a type of wart and that most moles were and that I needed to put sunblock on them if I was sunbathing. I had a friend who had one removed as her bra strap kept irritating it and was simple and done at her Gps surgery. No need to removed them if they aren't bothering you though.

TheJiminyConjecture · 09/03/2015 15:17

I have one on my forehead that I asked the GP about as it had changed size and was a bit itchy. He said it wasnt a mole but a birth defect Shock and was basically caused by me "fusing wrongly in the room"

TheJiminyConjecture · 09/03/2015 15:17

Whoops womb not room!

Mmm, interesting maybe CMOT is right after all then Thank you kind people!

Am not worried - just nosy Cake

wigglybeezer she (GP) said "Het is eigenlijk geen moedervlek maar een soort wrat" = "it isn't actually a mole but a sort of wart". I questioned and she repeated...

I probably should have questioned further but she was running late, had already let DD look through the dermoscope and we were potentially verging on being late home for the school run. y' see.

Could it be a haemangioma?

I have one of these on my thigh which I got checked out years ago when a concerned friend said it looked dodgy. I knew I'd had it years, and the GP took one look and said it was fine. Mine is about the size of the nail on my little finger, smooth, oval, quite a dark purple, almost black, but they do vary from person to person.

MrsLettuce · 09/03/2015 17:15

Thanks but no, it's definitely a what we'd call a 'mole', even though it's official classification is 'wart family'.

My DF is a retired dermatologist, I could ask him about seborrhoeic warts, I was planning to show him a funny spot thing I have on my neck this week anyway!

TheSpottedZebra · 09/03/2015 23:14

I have some moles that I have to get checked regularly -and I've had a few dodgy ones removed etc etc.
So one time, getting some checked, I asked about a mole on my chest. No, hats not a mole, it's... aan extra nipple. Yup, and so is that one.

I have a mole like thing called a seborrhoic keritosis (spelling may be dodgy!). I had to get it checked out at the hospital as the GP wasn't sure what it was. The hospital said it's normally more common in the elderly than people my age (late twenties at the time). I felt a bit shit then as was feeling old before my time.
