Sudden unexplained facial swelling

Has this happened to anybody else?

I woke up this morning and the right side of my face is all puffy and swollen. It feels warm and like the skin is a bit stretched.
I've not eaten or used anything different.
I've felt very tired and off colour for a few days. I have quite an.upset stomach today.
But I'm not sure how that would cause my face to swell?

This is called angioedema. It cam be caused by an allergy most commonly but sometimes a virus. Have you taken any new medications or eaten any new food?

Any pain, op? A stretching feeling along with the area feeling warm can be a sign of an infection

lougle · 09/03/2015 07:51

The are a few different possibilities. Have you had any tooth pain or gum tenderness? Is there any redness? Have you scratched your face in the last few days?

You need to see someone about it this morning if you also have an upset stomach. It sounds like you have an infection of some sort.

Have you had a cold lately at all? I had this with a sinus infection which leaked its way around my face. Lovely Hmm

No pain at all. No cold either but I do think I may have some sort of virus. DH has come down with similar symptoms minus the facial swelling.

Mumps?

It can be caused by a virus. But I would get it checked out by the GP, just in case. They will probably tell you to take ibuprofen and come back if it's still there in a few days, but better that it's seen early in case it does stay.

I managed to speak to a Gp who seemed unconcerned.

How are you feeling now, Confused?

hellomynameis · 09/03/2015 21:30

This is called angioedema

Confusedhousehunter · 09/03/2015 22:08

Much better thanks. The swelling has almost all gone now.
