I'm a little annoyed at my doctors...

I have previously stated my worries over the MMR to my HVs and they have done their best to talk me around.
I had almost started to feel a little better about the MMR, only to be told today that the MMR is now given at the same time as the new injection. They dont do them at different times.
Surely that's not a good idea? I'm a little peeved off.

Not sure if it is a good idea or not, but I refused the new jab at ds's mmr appt. and went back a few weeks later for it just incase.

DD is 1 year, and I'd got this afternoon off work so took her to get weighed etc. I had thought she could have the new jab as I dont want her to have the MMR one just yet, and they said that I'd have to bring her back when 13 months old or older and both jabs are given together.
Not chuffed.
My worry is that if I refuse the new jab when she has her MMR (I'd wanted to wait til she's 15ish months) then can they refuse to give her the new jab at a later time?

I'm sure they could do them at different times if it meant the differnence between meeting a statistical target or not. Their argument would be that many would overlook an extra appointment so it is more efficient to do them together. Perhaps try to book it at the same time , for a few weeks hence to show willing ?

surely they can't make you have your child injected at the same time as you have the final say and yu are entitled to both. I'd speak to them again if i were you.

ELF1981 · 26/10/2006 19:17

You dont have to make appointments where I live; you just turn up on a Thursday and you can see a doc, get them weighed/measured/checked & injected.

My children are older, but I was worried about the vast number of vaccinations given at the same time. My children are all fully vaccinated, but never to the health department's calendar. I simply told the surgery what I wanted my child to have and when and they were happy to go along with that.

I think they'd rather have a fully vaccinated child, albeit not entirely in accord with their schedule, than one not vaccinated because a parent wasn't prepared to adhere to their agenda.

TwigTwoolett · 26/10/2006 19:18

I made my doctor's surgery split the primary jabs so DD got no more than 2 at a time

this was before the 5-in-1 though .. and I was a right PITA about DTwP anyway and by the time they agreed to DTaP they'd have agreed to anything

ELF1981 · 26/10/2006 19:20

lol
I shall adopt my arsey look then!
I loved the line of "make sure she's well when you bring her for all the injections as it's a lot".
I walked out thinking "right oh!"

Exactly Freckle. The nurse said I was wasting nhs time and moneyby having 2 appoitments, to which I replied that by ensuring my child was fully vaccinated, surely in the long run had the potential to save the nhs money.

TwigTwoolett · 26/10/2006 19:23

the thing I always think is it would be a very unfortunate child who would contract more than 1 illness at a time

and if nature doesn't do it

why should we?

(I gave DD MMR at 19 months and she ended up hospitalised with pneumonia 10 days later ... all doctors at pains to say that it had nothing to do with the jab .. me I think she her immune system was occupied elsewhere and it sneaked in the back)

You really don't have to use your arsey look very much. Once you get a reputation for being individual, the nursing staff start to respect your stance and are very cooperative, ime.
