Have doctor's appointment later but am paranoid- he had his mmr last week...

My DD did the same thing, I ended up taking her to A&E where they did all sorts of tests and there was nothing wrong with her!!
They cocluded that she just fancied limping for a while.
She stopped after a couple of weeks and then limped onthe other leg a few weeks later for a while
Hope this is the case for your DD, you are doing the right thing taking her to the doctor, hope it turns out OK

OMg have just looked up limping on the internet - lists muscular diseases and bone cancer amongst causes.

Am shaking now.
Although you are probably right loujay...

Cramp? Stubbed toe? Splinter? Ill fitting shoe? Or, like loujay's dd, he could just have decided to walk a little differently today.

Have you asked her if it hurts anywhere? Does she seem like she's in pain?

loujay · 26/10/2006 09:12

(((hugs)))
Please try and stay calm, what time is the appointment??

NotQuiteCockney · 26/10/2006 09:12

My DS1 refused to use one leg for a day or two, when he was about 18 months. He then limped for months. We had xrays, and lots of prodding and poking, and nothing was ever found.

He's 5 now, and absolutely fine.

charmkin · 26/10/2006 09:17

He not talking yet so I can't ask.Have taken shoes off and he still limping. Got docs at 11.

if the limp is brand new, and he's never had it before, is otherwise well, no temperature, sleeping and eating well, then DON'T WORRY!

Almost certainly irritable hip . It can certainly affect children younger than 3.

Alternatively, a toddler's fracture is very common, and can happen without parents being aware.

Piffle · 26/10/2006 09:32

dd had this, she had a cold mild about 3 weeks earlier
She was checked thoroughly for Perthes disease and then we were told it was irritable hip even though she complained her knee hurt most.
REferred pain, she was out of action for quite a while, I too thought the doctors were shitting me adn she had some far flung obscure thing but infact she is now 100% again.
docs will send you to A+E for xray, is ds complaing on pain in any one place? Any bruising/swelling/puncture marks?

tissy · 26/10/2006 09:33

toddler's fracture

Mud · 26/10/2006 09:36

you're over-reacting massively - stop it now. your child has a limp for which there are a million reasons - cramp, stubbed toe, twisted ankle or it just feels like it cos it feels funny and hes getting loads of attention

looking up a limnp on the internet - how ridiculous - get a grip

LIZS · 26/10/2006 09:40

dd has had the irritable hip thing (which can be triggered by a cold), also squashed her foot under her pushchair when she tipped it, sprained her ankle. Chances are it is nothing serious in your ds.

ginmummy · 26/10/2006 12:37

What did the doc say Charmkin?

charmkin · 26/10/2006 12:45

Doc say it could be pulled muscle but to take temp every 2 hours in case it is septic arthritis. Got to go back tomorrow.

He seems ok but the limp is getting worse.
Worried sick.

It's only natural to worry but try not to work yourself up into a frenzy. It sounds like one of those things that time will tell what it is.

Poor charmkin and little charmkin!

LIZS · 26/10/2006 14:08

Did he suggest anything in the meantime. Anti inflammatories helped dd's hip.

Joceybean · 26/10/2006 15:54

My DD also had an irritable hip when she was 2. She woke up one morning with a limp and we were referred directly to hospital and after x rays and blood tests turned out to be irritable hip and went over a period of about 3 weeks. She was never in pain, just limping. Please try not to worry, although I know how hard it is not too.

notagrannyyet · 26/10/2006 15:58

One of my DS fell in the garden when he was 14m. He'd only just started walking and although he cried at the time a cuddle from his big sister soon calmed him down. He seemed ok for a while but about an hour latter I noticed he wasn't bareing (sp?) weight on one leg and was limping around with the aid of the furniture.
Managed to get GP appointment for the same afternoon and she sent us to A&E to get DSs leg X-rayed. He had a green stick fracture. I was shocked at the time that he wasn't put in plaster. We were just sent home with pain killers & and an appointment to see a doctor in outpatients a few days later.

Can't remember now how long it took for DS to recover but it wasn't long. It almost seemed that he had to learn to walk again IYSWIM.

Hope you're LO gets better soon Charmkin.

notagrannyyet · 26/10/2006 16:00

Sorry your LO!
