Could this be thyroid - or just age

hello

I was tested for thyroid (underactive) - couple years ago and basically told by GP that I was just fat and getting older and tests not conclusive. Felt a bit foolish and haven't been back since.

However - have not got any better - tired, weight gain just continued

and recently have got much worse

I have always been active (even though a fatty) - but now I get properly breathless just walking up one flight of stairs to my workplace - I have noticed this particularly in last few weeks.

I am tired - constantly- and look it.

Tearful - at the slightest thing - although not all the time - but I can just fill up without any build up. I am happy in my life - work difficult at times - but I want to do things - just feel tired - and feel i am avoiding doing certain active things with my family.

Weight - going up and up. Trying to exercise (but the breathless problem is difficult)

I don't sleep well. I seem to wake a lot in the night and then struggle to get out of bed.

Heavy periods (although getting a bit irregular) - so think hitting menopause.

Now I seem to be losing one of my eyebrows - they have both got thinner but one is disappearing at the outer edge.

I am definitely going to GP this week - I have felt like staying off work recently and I am never off ill - I havent been off - but it has been a struggle.

I just wanted to post to see if people think this is symptomatic of hypothyroidism.

Thanks

The trouble with hypothyroidism is that the symptoms can be notoriously non- specific, so you may need to look at the signs. There is a list on Thyroid UK's website and one of them is losing the outer third of your eyebrows.

Do some reading and then ask the doc to do a full thyroid function test, including antibodies, together with vitamin D, vitamin B12, folate and ferritin. That should give you something to work with.

That was quick - thanks for advice. Will look up that forum. I just want to go and see GP and ask the right questions. Thanks

it could be
it causes slight weight gain but not huge amounts, but the other symptoms might fit
inconclusive blood tests last time sounds like your thyroid results might have already been a bit 'off'

Thanks - my weight gain has been gradual - but I a much bigger than I was a few years ago when I was doing lots of running.

An example of how I am feeling is that I am working from home today (am taking a lunch break now) - earlier I received an email from a colleague - that appears to be in an irritated tone - but you can never tell with emails. I read it and tears started running down my face - that just isn't me. It might not be thyroid - it might be exhaustion - or depression - but I dont think I fit into being depressed - as I do want to do things - but i just feel so shattered...

I feel as though I just need some time off - but of course have to save holidays for school times and emergencies - never just get a week off to myself.
