I've got thrush again; I always seem to get it a couple of times a year throughout the course of my adult life.

Last year I bought over the counter creams, pessaries etc but nothing cleared it up over the course of a month & I ended up getting a prescription from the GP, which did work.

This time, I felt it come on Friday morning, bought an oral capsule & cream in the afternoon. But I'm not noticing any improvement so far

Sorry, posted too early!

Was going to ask if there was anything else I could try eg repeat tablet dose, try pessaries too.

AF due soon, which seems to be the trigger for it. Think I'm perimenopausal too.

Thanks.

Are you using 'Always' type sanitary pads? I find them hugely irritating and have heard of so many other people where this is the case. Try to avoid them and go for natural pads or the older style thicker ones.

Also I really recommend Virgin Coconut oil (healthfood shop or Holland & Barrett). Take a spoonful a day in a cup of tea or coffee and decant some into a separate container for the bathroom and apply it to your bits after going to the toilet. It is v soothing and if you google it, you will find quite a lot of info about it being good for thrush. It is not instantaneous but it does sooth and after a few days you should notice an improvement. Worked for me after having no benefit whatsoever from Canestan etc.

Fluconazole (oral tablet) is effective. If you have recurrent thrush you can take it regularly (small dose every day for several days, rather than a one-off dose).

Also go and see a nurse so they can take a swab and get it tested. Just to make sure it's thrush (and if so what type it is) and not another infection like BV.

And I agree with the PP who mentioned sanitary protection. I recommend Natracare products.
