Hello,

My ds#2 is 18 months and has an endocrine problem we are trying to get diagnosed at the moment. He isn't producing cortisol and they're not sure why. This is having an effect on his sleep among other things because he gets secondary hypothermia every night. His body temp drops to 34.6-35c after 3 hours of sleep.

I put him to bed in the following clothes- Long sleeved vest, Footed baby grow and a Fleece baby grow on top. His bed has a white co lambs wool mattress topper and a 10.5tog duvet. His room is heated all night by a radiator by his bed and I put a hot water bottle in with him when I go to bed and he still gets cold. He wakes any time from 11pm onwards very cold and I have to physically warm him up with our my heat. He asks to come out of his cot to be warmed then asks to go back to bed once he is warm enough to sleep.

We are all utterly shattered. I'm also nearly 7 months pregnant with our third and the nightly periods of 1-5hours of going backwards and forwards to him to warm him are just ruining me (my dh sees the children as my job but after I woke him every time I got out and back into bed for a week he is starting to help out a bit. He is almost deaf in one ear so if he lies on his good one he claims he can't hear ds wailing and I'm the Queen of Sheba...)

I have spent a fortune and tried all of the 3.5tog grobags/dreamgenii/jojo offerings and none of them keep him warm enough.

I was hoping some of you lovely mumsnetters may have some suggestions for clothes, sleep bags or even Inuit fur bedding options because I am at my wits end and willing to try anything. The Dr has said until they know why he is not producing cortisol they won't give him any medication as it will be masking the problem, Urgh.

Thank you in advance, apologies for the rant. I'm so sleep deprived I feel like I can't remember my own name most of the time...

How about an electric blanket?

Pico2 · 28/02/2015 21:47

I would have thought an electric blanket is the answer. He isn't producing enough heat so insulating him will only do so much and a source of heat would make more sense. What you really need is one that tests his temperature and is controlled to maintain it. I've no idea if such a thing exists.

Yes to electric blanket or can he just sleep with you
