Can anyone make sense of these blood results? (Thyroid related)

So, after my previous thread about thinking of using vitamins to help me feel better, I went to my gp and asked for my latest blood result. None of it makes sense to me, hoping someone on here can help.

Serum TSH level - 0.60 mu/L
Serum free T4 level - 13.1 pmol/L

Serum ferritin - 76 ug/L
Serum vitamin B12 - 375 ng/L

All results say "normal - no action".

I want to believe it, but I feel as though my thyroxine is not making any difference at all. I am on 125 mcg.

If anyone can make sense of these results, I'd be very grateful.

Results are always easier to interpret if they come with the reference ranges.

Having said that, I guess these all fall within the reference ranges, which is why you will have been told they are 'normal'.

The thyroidian online community however would probably say that the ferritin is just OK, but needs watching in case it slips back and could comfortably be higher, and the B12 needs a boost to get it over 500.

However, you might have to post on a thyroid forum to. Find out why your pituitary seems to be picking up the thyroxine, hence low TSH, but your FT4 is still so low. This implies that your FT3 will also be low and you will not feel good.

You are taking your thyroxine properly, aren't you? Empty stomach, lots of water, don't eat for an hour afterwards?

Thanks for your response. I'm taking my meds properly, yes.

Do you think a vitamin b12 supplement from, say Holland and Barrett would suffice?

I'll go and find a thyroid forum.

Thanks again.

how long have you been on thyroxine? did you get your vit d tested as well? t4 sounds a bit low

DowntonFlabbey · 28/02/2015 17:27

Been on it for about 2 years now. Didn't get vit d tested

So if you think T4 is a bit low, would the doc up my thyroxine if I asked him?

Most doctors dose off TSH only, which is where issues start to arise.

You need a sublingual B12 supplement. Try Jarrow 1,000 mcg off Amazon.

honestly, i dont know if the gp would increase it much more but you could ask, as your tsh is not suppressed yet and your t4 still seems quite low. vit d deficiency often goes with hypo, and can cause tiredness etc,and your b12 does also seem low
another idea is celiac, only because everyone i know in rl who is hypo also has asymptomatic (well no stomach issues) celiacs
