No period for 6 months, what to do?

Strange problem maybe but I could do with some advice.

I've always had irregular and infrequent periods, I generally have 5ish a year. Doc says that's okay, just, and i also have PCOS which contributes to the irregularities.

I don't want children so any fertility issues due to this are not a consideration.

I've not had a period since Aug 14, no sign of anything except a few stomach cramps and tiny amount of bleeding, literally just a smidge on the tissue paper once in awhile.

when I have periods they are extremely heavy and last ages, so not having them is actually for me quite good.

I am in two minds about going to see the doctor, I am happier not having them as it avoids the heavy bleeding, but are there other issues I should be worried about because they have stopped?

I'm 33 so young for the menopause, no family history of anything related.

Not sure what to do, advice appreciated.

I had 4 months free last year. In my case I was also v heavy so happy without but also I was v regular so out of the norm.
GP did some hormone tests but my period came back the same month.
They were checking thyroid and for menopaise

Um, what about the obvious? (if you've had unprotected sex)

Thanks for the responses. No chance of pregnancy, definitely not that.

Asking again as still no period! Any advice? Not having periods is better for me generally, so still hesitant to go to GP.

well you need to see your GP. This is not normal and you ought to ask for a referral to a gynae to have some investigations . it could be premature meno and you'd need treatment.

I suffer from PCOs and at one point didn't have a period for nearly a year. Dealing with the hormone overload was horrendous. You really need this checked out.

Musicaltheatremum · 17/03/2015 20:49

You need to get your hormones checked out. Shouldn't need a gynaecologist referral initially.

Thanks for the responses. I willl go and see GP, any ideas what the treatment might be?

I would rather not have periods back so in a way I am happy with the situation.. Guess I am concerned about what other health effects this might be linked to.

Get to the doctor. If you are going through early menopause, you will need HRT.

You must go and see your GP

In extreme cases allowing the womb lining to build up continually can cause cancer. I know someone experiencing this as a result of PCOS
