I don't know when I need to go to the loo - anyone experienced this?

Started after my op (appendix out last week) and I am to go back to my GP on Friday/Mon if it's not sorted itself out, but I'm just curious to know if anyone else has had this. I have no sensation of needing the loo, which means I have to remember to go every couple of hours during the day (can manage at night ok). If I leave it too long I get a sensation of pressure inside, which then reminds me, but my bladder can be full to bursting and I wouldn't know! Not incontinent at all (thank God for small mercies!!). At first I assumed it was to do with my op, but the surgeon says not and all the medical bods are a bit puzzled really.

Did you have a catheter when you were in hosptial Miaou? I had a catheter once when I had a failed epdiural with dd and I found that I had no sensation of needing the loo for a few days after the catheter was removed. I was warned about it though so sort of made a mental note to go to the loo, regardless of whether or not I thought I needed it, every few hours. Sure enough, even though I had no sensation of needing to go, I always weed incredible amounts.

this happened to me after my c section. it was like a horse pissing. sorry bit crude!

I had this after giving birth both times. I got so full that I couldn't actually go when I got there that I ended up with a catheter just because I couldn't go.

I was told though that if your bladder gets over-ful it gets stretched & permanently damaged. I think that this was wrt knowing when to go so make sure you keep going every couple of hours to prevent this. I should add that I am not sure how true this is and whether it may have been an excuse to leave me with a catheter for longer than I wanted IYSWIM.

Hmmm. No, no catheter (hence why they are a little puzzled at the hospital). I was a little like this after having the kids, but once everything had calmed down, I was back to normal (within about 3-4 days). However it has been a week now since my op and I am no nearer knowing when I need to go! AFAIK urine is clear (ie no infection) - they took a sample as I left hossie and said they would be in touch if there was a problem.

Am very careful to make sure I don't leave it too long between trips though.
