A boot after a cast- do you sleep in it? (Broken ankle)

Has anyone ever had one of these Velcro boot things instead of a plaster cast?

I broke my ankle last week but have been upgraded to a boot today ('equaliser walker') but was told nothing about how to use it.

Obviously I wear it while walking, and I'm assuming I can take it off when watching tv and resting, but how about in bed?

I had one for a broken foot. I was not allowed to put weight on it and I had to wear it at all times (except in the bath). It was horrible and sweaty and sleeping was very awkward. Check with the fracture clinic at your hospital if in doubt, but I think you need to keep it on.

I went in an air cast boot after 3 months in plaster....it was after a ruptured achilies tendon. I didn't sleep in it though....

Hope you on the mend soon

Yes you are supposed to keep it on for the majority of the time (ie just take off for bathing) and exercises as per Physio.

Having had a broken ankle and now operated on ankle and boots both times stick leg on pillow lengthways up your leg including behind knee for support.

Thank you. I've realised now actually that it would be far too vulnerable sleeping without it. It's great to be able to take it off for an hour when it's driving me crazy though !
