So painful

Not sure whether to go to dentist or not?

Could it be infected? It is quite common for infections to start and you can get an abscess in the bone - horrible

Gargle with hot salt water to prevent / alleviate this, but if your face is swollen I would see the dentist to get anti-biotics.

I have also found that disprol left to dissolve on the painful area gives relief for a while. I have been told this is very bad for your teeth ironically and can cause decay but I was past caring at the time

Other than that, yes it is painful, isn't it? Imagine poor little babies with a face full of teeth coming through...

Well my jaw in that area is really hurting.

Thanks f and z for that I will do that!

I know about babies and teething. We had a month of sleepless nights per tooth

i'd go to the dentist. it's quite common to get infections,so best to get it treated sooner rather than later if that's what it is.

Tis quite normal at 32!! Similar thing happened to me earlier in year on hols in france tho. Used Oraldene cos I didn't want to go to french dentist, and I've found that worked in the past. If at home would have gone to dentist tho

Am off to dentist tomorrow.

Was up in middle of night with severe jaw pain. Is this normal?

Have you ever had an xray to see what your wisdom teeth are doing?

I only ask because at 39, all 4 of my wisdom teeth are 'impacted', meaning they are all still in the gum with one edge slightly under the teeth already there IYSWIM. This isn't a problem if they stay put and never try to break through, but can cause problems if they do. Mine niggle every few years, sometimes resulting in a bit of an infection that antibiotics clear up. It is very painful though, even if the infection is minor. Hope the dentist sorts you out, and much sympathy.

Well I am 39, I had a wisdom tooth come through last year and have one coming through at the moment!! Mine was very painful over the weekend, but the tooth seems to be coming through ok, not wonky or anything. Had a look on google and it is common to get PERICORONITIS when Wisdom teeth come through, it suggested gargling with salt water which seems to have done the trick for me, but if that doesn't provide any releif, it does say to see your dentist incase of infection.

tigi · 25/10/2006 21:22

At 26 mine were horrendous - I had so many prescriptions of antibiotics because of the infections they caused in my ears and throat too.. The bottom 2 caused the most trouble. One top one came down fine, the other didnt try. I had them all out with a general anaethetic at hosp. They were all taken so it didnt make the 'bite' of my teeth a problem. It was fine.

Blossomhowl · 25/10/2006 21:34

Gladbag, dellie and tigi ~ sympathies it's so painful. The whole gum, top and bottom, is sore and I have a lump too

I have to say I don't want them taken out under GA.

THIS IS ALL NORMAL. taKE ALL USUAL PAIN ( sorry caps on!!) relief for you ibprofen and paracetamol. Try and keep the area as clean as poss . Try hot salty mouthrinses regulary. Nice guidelines are two episodes requiring antibiotics require removal, if only impacted and not carious. hth

Blossomhowl · 25/10/2006 21:48

thanks louis mummy.

Teeth have been the bane (sp?) of my life

Hope you sort them out - I really have to say the general anathetic op was was not a problem. It healed really quickly with little pain. The dentist had offered to take the troublsome ones out one by one with an injection -- NO THANK YOU!! I'm a real baby!

Blossomhowl · 28/10/2006 10:48

I am still suffering here

Been on antibiotics for 2 days. Taking co-codamol and ibruprofen and still in agony.
Been doing salt mouthwashes as well.

Really getting to me (sob)
