Fentons wound not healing - help? Poss TMI

Following ventouse delivery of DS1 in November 2013 I had a second degree tear requiring internal and external stitches (including a stitch on my cervix)

I was left with a bridge of scar tissue at the vaginal fourchette which reduced the size of the opening and made sex impossible as it tore painfully. I had surgery two weeks ago to 'refashion' the area which, having read up on MN, I believe was a Fentons procedure - my discharge notes read 'painful area at perineum excised longitudinally and sutured transversely'. I was also told immediately prior to the op that they would be repairing the back wall of my vagina (not sure if this is the same thing or an additional procedure)

Recovery has been painful and I visited my GP last Weds as on inspection the wound appeared to be infected and breaking down. She advised that the wound was not healing well and was 'sloughy'. I was given 7 days of antibiotics which I am still taking and told if things didn't improve that I would e referred back to the hospital. The wound is still painful and has an area of sloughy tissue on one side which seems to be rubbing against the other side, causing pain, discomfort and what looks like an ulcer.

I feel I should see someone again but I just wondered if anyone else has has this procedure and would share your recovery experience? Is there anything I can/should be doing to aid recovery? I am taking salt baths twice daily and obviously trying to keep as clean as possible.

Any advice welcome as I am really upset by the state of my battered body just now and feeling very low Sad I think I may be suffering from a degree of birth trauma and every examination gets harder and more upsetting.

If it is not healing with the antibiotics and the wound remains sloughy. I would try and be seen today and not leave it.

That is good. Let us know how you get on. You may need to go back to your consultant.

Saw the nurse practitioner, she says there are some stitches poking out which are causing the irritation and discomfort. She was loathe to pull them out though (thankfully) She took a swab to check whether I'll need some different antibiotics but overall she says it looks like it's now starting to heal.

She also suggested that if I were to plan another baby that I should speak to my GP about an elective section.

Thanks for your reply today Scoob Smile
