Reusable menstrual pads?

Well. After having the coil removed and needing to buy tampons and pads for the first time in years I find it annoying that all of them are scented. Scented. Scented TAMPONS. Just why?! All pads I've used so far have been itchy and uncomfortable.

Really interested in the reusable ones but have no idea where to start. Help please!

I'm a mooncup convert but I do have a few washable pads that I bought from pleasurepuss.com

I tried the reusable ones for about a year. They are more comfortable material than pads but hot in summer, and when you have to change it during the day it means you are carrying the used one in your handbag. I had plastic bags for this purpose. I've gone back to shop pads. We don't have a dryer and you have to do a wash every day you're on and in the end I got tired of seeing them drying all the time.

Cheeky Wipes do reusable sanitary pads. I haven't use them myself, but their reusable wipes are great.

I can highly recommend Feminine Wear

They have a fantastic selection, great prices, and the lady who runs is incredibly helpful. They also have a very good Facebook page www.facebook.com/FeminineWear?fref=ts

I am allergic to disposables so switched to using cloth pads and/or a menstrual cup about 4 years ago, the ones I first bought are still going strong, despite daily use (awful heavy, unpredictable periods, never know when they will start). They are sooo comfortable! I also find the plastic backed ones hot in summer, no hotter than disposables, but I tend to stick to fleece backed which are just as leak-proof but much cooler - I will never go back to disposables and have told my daughters about cloth pads so they can choose when the time comes.

You can ask advice on which styles/types might suit you and how many you will need on Facebook (closed group) or email Francis who runs the site...she really is lovely.

You can also try brands like naturacare ( disposable but non scented) I use them when I'm away from home for a few days. I've never used other tampons so can't comment on effectiveness in comparison to other brands.

I buy my reusables - cups and pads - from luxury moon and etsy. Though I've made a few liners myself.

My advice would be not to invest in one type to start off with as there's lots of fabrics for the top layer, inners, and backings. Decent ones should last 5 years or more so def worth taking time to work out what's best for you ( my pref is flannel top, fleece on bottom... I only use them as backup for cup so inner absorbant material isn't particularly important for me.)
There's also lots of wahms making them and can make to your specification. Some lovely materials available. My liners are all Wonder Woman flannel. Def beats Always plastic!

and you have to do a wash every day you're on You really don't!

I rinse mine & them leave them in cold water and do several at a time with undies.

There is really no more work involved than with disposables.

Thanks all Grin So many pretties to choose from! My periods are very heavy - TMI warning - quite often when I stand up I will completely flood a pad and end up with blood all over my legs Sad which means I tend to only wear black leggings and not go out very much when I'm on. I thought well, if reusable nappies bamboo/minkee/fleece etc can hold the pee of a baby, surely they can contain a period far better than the disposable ranges.
