Gastroenterology

I have just had my appointment through for my gastroenterology. Could someone please tell me what it is really like and hopefully put my mind at rest? I'm a bit worried about the procedure, but I know it needs to be done.

What have you been referred for?

MamaPizza · 21/02/2015 19:57

I vomit every morning Sad

It started over four years ago with work related anxiety and depression. My life has 100% changed for the better since then, but the vomiting continues. Every. Single. Fucking. Day.

Tried everything: medication, counselling, breathing & relaxation, nothing is helping. GP now thinking that it could be physical and hence the referral.
I kind of hope it is physical, because hand on heart, I'm happy with my life and it is definitely not anxiety related anymore. My body just wants to be sick, I wake up and within an instant I have acid and yucky stuff in the same spot in my throat which needs to come out. If it is physical at least they can hopefully fix it because I'm sick of being sick every morning.

I had similar, except I'd randomly vomit any time, night or day. I had a gastroscopy (under sedation), every blood test under the sun and an MRI scan of my head.

Sorry to hear and good to know I'm not alone.

How was the procedure? I've never been sedated before, what can I expect during and after?

Did they find anything?

I just wish it would stop...

The procedure was fine and it is very, very quick. They gave me pain relief as well as the sedation and I don't remember anything. I had to stay for a couple of hours afterwards and I couldn't drive myself home but I felt completely normal.

They didn't find anything but did more tests and concluded that I have very
delayed gastric emptying aka Gastroparesis. It's not getting better but I am learning to live with it.

Have you tried domperidone?

MamaPizza · 23/02/2015 19:14

Thanks, that sounds good. It's good to know that I probably won't remember / notice.

DH will take the day off and drive me there and then back home.

My worry is that they won't find anything. Yes, you learn to live with it, but it's not nice having to vomit every morning. I don't want to deal with it, I want it fixed Sad

Not tried domeperidone, but after will ask for it if they can't fix it any other way.
