I hear a hum! And it's driving me round the twist

I noticed it when I was pregnant and my ds is 18 months old now so it's been going on for bloody ages.

It's like intermittent road noise but we can't hear the road from our house. I normally only hear it at home but heard it somewhere else last night so now think it's my ears?

We've hunted high and low for any noise source at home down to turning the electric off to see if it was that with no result. It's starting to drive me mental. Any ideas what it is and how I can get rid of it?

I was going to suggest turning all the electrics off but you've done that.

Google Tinnitus - I had it on and off for a year or two and then it went away. If it is this hope it goes away sooner rather than later.

I thought tinnitus was a ringing rather than a hum?

Yeah, turned the electric off. I wondered while if it was something sub sonic somewhere. I googled 'I hear a hum', there's some cracking theories! all none of which believe

Some kind of ear infection perhaps? Blocked tubes?

There's a man who lives down the road with a super powerful car. The engine vibrates and it tickles my ears and causes an odd hum. Could it be a nearby beast of a car or a machine?

You could have an ear infection, my friend had a buzzing in the ears and it was a middle ear infection

mineofuselessinformation · 20/02/2015 15:23

Tinnitus can be in many forms - mine is a continuous tone.
You need to see your gp.

I once moved into a cottage and could hear a hum! Eventually after I'd started to consider moving I found a sonic rodent deterrent plug-in!

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm mattersons

I've heard 'the hum'. Its odd and it happens near a river nearme. Tin foil doesnt help!

Sounds like tinnitus. When I first got it I had the kids going round every room with me, they couldn't hear anything. Mine is sometimes ringing, sometimes like a tune, it takes many forms. It's really annoying but you'll notice it most when it's quiet. I've had it for years, the doctor didn't suggest anything helpful.

MostlyCake · 20/02/2015 21:41

Oh my god Weekipper I never thought of that. I've never been up in the loft

I'm pouring olive oil in my ears at the moment just in case I have super blocked ears or something. Doing that for a week then going to the docs.

I had a hum ??it was a wild bee nest in the chimney space in our bedroom
DH couldn't hear itv
We saw them flying in
They moved , and the hum went after 6 weeks or so though

mineofuselessinformation · 20/02/2015 21:47

Sounds sensible. Your gp should refer you if it's stopping you sleeping, definitely, and may anyway. I had an MRI to make sure I didn't have a benign tumour on my auditory nerve as it is only one-sided.
