Please tell me it's not chicken pox (holiday on monday!)

Hoping someone can offer some advice. DD was ill last week with high temp and a mottled rash on her tummy. Doctor advised it was a viral infection and said to give Calpol regularly. After a couple of days she was back to her old self and today is happy and racing around as usual.

However I've just noticed that she's developed six or seven bright red small but defined spots (a couple on her face, some on her legs and tummy). I'm presuming it's chicken pox as I know it's going around although I don't think DD has been in contact with anyone who has it. However she's not ill and the spots don't seem to be itchy.

I'm just hoping it's not chicken pox as we're due to go on holiday on Monday (in UK where there will be lots of other toddlers). If it's CP will we have to cancel? Is there anything else it could be? Could it be linked to the earlier viral infection?

I've rung the Docs in the hope they can let me know one way or the other but they've said to call back after 2pm.

Thanks for reading!

Hi. I hope you got hold of the GP and that you don't have to cancel your holiday.
I'm afraid my sons CP started like this - A short illness we thought he'd got over, 5 days later CP hit. We avoided other children.
DS1 was really miserable, didn't sleep etc. But I think it really varies how badly kids feel with it. Hope your DD is better soon.

cpx looks more like blisters than red spots so you might be lucky

I'd go anyway to be honest. Chicken pox is so common and most kids get it at some point. I know mines not a popular view on mumsnet but most insurance won't cover cancellation so I'd still go.

In a place full of toddlers, someone's probably infected at some point anyway o it's nothing you can avoid for sure.

If I is chickenpox then there's no way I'd go. It's not so much the other toddlers, it's the pregnant women etc who you might come into contact with. How is she today?

Buttercupsandaisies · 22/02/2015 09:10

It only affects those pregnant women who have not had it before though.

I haven't had it before but when exposed during pregnancy, I was tested and it turned out I was immune anyway, like many people are. Lots have silent infections.

There are probably few pregnant women who have not had it before (or been exposed enough to build immunity) and in such situations, I'd expect pregnant women to be more careful around a group of toddlers as it's likely someone will be carrying it as it's so common.

thats an ignorant and shit and selfish point of view, frankly, buttercups.
plenty of immunosuppressed kids and adults out there who could die if they caught cpx.
i might be there with immunosuppressed ds. or with my dad, on chemo, having a family break while he is well enough to enjoy some family time
i expect you think we should just live inside and never go out
what a selfish horrible view
