I had the most surreal and unpleasant experience of my life taking this drug. I felt more sick than ever (for more than a day) and like there was somebody standing right behind me.

I wouldn't take it again if I was paid a large sum of money.

There was a thread about it a little while ago where people posted their experiences of it. I'll see if I can find it.

I took this a few years ago but had to come off it as I was allergic and came out in large blisters. I don't recall any other side effects but I wasn't on them for long.

Greensleeves · 24/10/2006 23:07

hunker, that is terrifying

I've never been prescribed it, thankfully, but I've heard the reports etc. It sounds bloody awful.

hunkermunker · 24/10/2006 23:09

That was after one tablet. I couldn't take another one. The thought of putting one of the malevolent little beasties in my mouth was retch-inducing and terrifying.

Hey, I should write the product info for the next batch, eh?!

I took this about 7 years ago pre kids for a few months. It made me quite dizzy and I had really lucid dreams one of which culminated in me being convinced I could smell smoke and dp found me naked with the front door open trying to see if there was a fire. Turns out the dr who told me to take 2 every evening made a mistake and I was supposed to take them in the morning, he said "Gosh I bet you had some lucid dreams didn't you?" well yeah!

Sorry not much help to the original poster but just thought i'd share.

When I took it I had suunds in my head like lightbulbs exploding. This used to happen in the night and it would make me jump a mile and wake me up. It was very very frightening.

I got sweats, (a lot of people thought I was going through the change) I put on 3 stone in weight, I constantly had a dry mouth, it affected my vision and I would panic if I forgot to take one.

It took me six months to come off it, using Prozac. There is a very long thread somewhere about Seroxat and the effects it has had on some people.

All ADs have side effects. The older tricylics are pretty awful - weight gain, dry mouth, dizziness.... Prozac had some pretty horrible ones too. It is often a case of which is worse, the depression or the tablets to relieve it. Sometimes the tablets may have such consequences that another course of action will be considered. One problem of the SSRIs was overprescription. They were handed out like smarties. They are all powerful drugs and should be treated with respect. For a while the new drugs were thought of as 'magic bullets', which of course they are not. Anyone with severe depression should be watched closely and the tablets should be monitored carefully. A danger of the older anti depressants was suicide. They were very dangerous in overdoses.

I took seroxat for 2 years for mild OCD,not depression and came off it when I found out I was pregnant. I did get some dizzy spells but I think that was more to do with me not coming off it gradually, as is recommended. I was only taking 20mg a day. It was a life saver for me at the time and I am now starting to worry that my OCD might return after the birth-apparently that's quite common. I have read it could even get worse. So I was very interested to hear that it's prescribed by some doctors for breastfeeding mothers. Does anyone know of it being prescribed for post natal OCD?
