Cranial osteopathy

Just wanted to revive this thread, as dd is at Cranial Osteopathy for respiratory and reflux problems and after 2 sessions it does seem to help. But at £30 a shot I am not sure how many more sessions I should do. Is this a cure, or just a 'help'?

Has anyone else got any stories to tell (direct ones) as I am at a stage where I will try anything and don't want to fall into the trap of seeing improvement where there isn't any..if you see what I mean!

I know a great cranial osteopath in North london (N4/N8). She' been great with with ds2 who had reflux. We're still gonig- he's no longer gbeing sick howebver different problrems. He's 9 months now, and has been crawling for 3 months and can stand beautifullyy, but can't sit finds it very uncomfrtable ,and arches his back to get out of position so she's helping with that. Let me knwo if want her number.

How about Manchester? I may resort to it for bad colic if there is a chance it will help

Hve done as you suggested and got an appt for next Thursday. Did you predict problems at 6 weeks for your little one?

Hughsie · 25/04/2003 12:04

kaz33 - I see you tried co for colic - how many sessions did it take

kaz33 · 25/04/2003 12:11

3 or 4 - he was actually much better after 1 but then he had to have his 3 and 4 months injections which he did not deal with very well. That set him back and I had to take him back 2 or 3 times.

Hughsie · 25/04/2003 12:13

ds2 has got his first set of jabs on Wednesday so taking him on Thursday may be a good plan. thanks

snowqueen- sorry for the delayed response, thanks for the info will look up this contact in leamington, worth a try I think.

lil - I forgot that baby clinic is closed til next week so will keep you posted however I managed to get a doctors app following morning but usual doctor is on holiday (typical) the stand in doctor checked my ds and said she did not think it was reflux as my ds seemed to be thriving and gaining weight she then went on about her own daughter being a sicky baby and that he will hopefully grow out of it once he is walking (ie being more upright) I mentioned infant gaviscon but again she did not think it was needed.... I shall definitely mention it at the baby clinic next week and if I am still not satisfied then I shall book in again with my usual doctor, will let you know of any progress. thanks again for your advise lil.

Has anyone had any bad experiences of cranial osteopaths?
I have an appt on Thursday but ds2 has improved loads in the last three days - more settled in the evenings and I'm worried whether I sjhould still take him

He is still having bouts of pulling his knees up and pain cries but the improvement makes me feel he may recover on his own BUT I'd welcome being rid of it all together obviously. What do people think? It's unlikely to make him sorse anyway I presume?

Aaaah, Stilo, a baby doesn't have to be losing weight to have reflux. How bloody stupid!! My dd has been on reflux meds since she was 6 months. She never vomits. The reflux comes in different 'scales'. From instant vomiting, to 'silent aspiration' where they have no signs but the stomach contents are refluxed up the oesophagus and then swallowed back down.

Why does your doctor think her child was vomitting then!!! ..sorry I do get cross when GPs talk nonsense. Most children do grow out of reflux without any problems but there are plenty of drugs they can take without side effects which make their life easier. Its really a very common condition!

How did your doc. explain away your ds's symptons then? grr

oops don't want to muddle things by mentioning 'silent aspiration - which does involve the baby inhaling the contents of stomach on the way up/down the oesophagus(yuck)..(which is my dd's side effect and certainly not the part you should concern yourself with!!)

Look it up on the web you'll see reflux has lots of symptoms and side effects, so I don't want to get you confused!) but is EASILY sorted.

good luck!!

Hughsie, as long as you see an osteo who's a member of a registered body of osteos and ideally who's been personally recommended to you, you'll be fine. Also if it's someone practising at a clinic where there are other practitioners, the clinic would have checked them out, unlike someone operating from their own home.

Hughsie · 29/04/2003 10:42

Thanks TOMPS - I got the details off a registered website so feel happy about that. Luckily it turns out that it is about 5 minutes walk from my house too which is a bonus!

Hughsie · 29/04/2003 21:59

Edgarcat - How was your appt?

Tilly106 · 22/11/2007 21:25

hi stilo. my 5 months old boy is struggling with GER since birth and I would like to try craniosacral therapy. I live in Coventry as well, so I was wondering if you could recommend me the therapist that helped your little one. thanks.
