Hip pain, do I go to doc?

I have sore hips.

It's a dull achey pain and feels like it's deep in the bone. I had SPD in pregnancy and it reminds me of this (youngest is now 6).

It's sore to turn over in bed and sore after swimming or wearing high heels.

I am 39 and not over-weight and pretty fit.

Do I go to a doctor and say "my hips are a bit sore?". Or just suck it up?

Go to the doctor and get it checked out. If nothing else, you might at least get some pain relief.

I had spd with my second that didn't go away after the birth and my doctor convinced me it was normal and that it would go away in time and didn't even examine me what was I thinking like. It was only by self referral that I ended up going for physio and getting strengthening exercises.

sanquhar · 16/02/2015 09:20

could be bursitis.

i had spd and have the same feeling in both hips. went to the gp and was referred all over the place, had x-rays, ultrasounds etc before they decided it was bursitis.
im having physiotherapy which is is slowly helping. if it doesnt sort it then i can have steroid injections doneShock

thanks all, it's not really that bad which is why I'm resisting mentioning it to a GP (though I do moan to dh about it quite a lot).

Mconstant pain, even at a lower level, is so utterly draining though, and it might be something easily solved so you (& poor husbands aching ears! Wink) may be suffering for no reason, so get you to the GP I reckon and get it checked out

I've just joined Mumsnet to mention this to you...

I had painful hips a few months after having my first child. Turned out it was bursitis and I had some physio. That didn't do much to help, despite me doing the exercises religiously. Next step was the steroid jabs.

A chance remark by a friend who used to work in a sports shoe shop led me to try a podiatrist. The chap I saw there actually trained as a podiatrist because he had bursitis and developed an interest so he was very understanding. I was given custom-made orthotics which eased the bursitis completely after a few weeks (there was a slight improvement immediately). They stop my feet over-pronating which was stretching my IT bands which in turn were rubbing on the bursae.

I was warned that the bursitis could come back during my next pregnancy. But it didn't and it has stayed away since. I wear the orthotics every day.

Might be worth a try.

If you are in the Hampshire area, I can recommend a great podiatrist.

I got referred to physio for this. Just constant dull ache. Not bad but began to wear me down. Not gone yet but vastly improved. Definitely go to GP and get it checked out.

sanquhar · 17/02/2015 12:04

i would go and get it sorted, mine was fine-ish for years but it got to point where i could hardly walk some days and would be awake all night as otc painkillers didn't touch the pain.

get it early and it'll be so much easier to remedy.

I had what I thought was groin strain. Following a bit of physio, I was referred to consultant...MRI told him I had severe osteo arthritis. To cut long story short, I needed full hip replacement. I was shocked, but having had it (41) I am fine...no pain, cycle c50 miles a week, ski quite seriously.

Go to dr, and in unliely event that you get told similar, don't panic. I'm 3 years down the line and its fine, and has been since a few weeks post OP.
