What could be the cause of an itchy bottom? (not thread worms)

Have treated the whole family for Thread worms (DD definatly had them). I had been itchy before discovering DD had worms but my itching hasn't gone. Mainly late evening/bedtime or after going to the loo.
Its been going on for about 6 weeks now.Not every night/day but quite frequently.
Any ideas what it might be or am i going to have to bend over for the doc to have a look?

Pain on wiping, itchy when not? And you can see two tears in the skin? Fissures....get that cream, O Tortoise, you will feel much better

Any idea what that cream is called? I can not go into my chemists and say i need Anal fissure cream!

tortUREoisechamber · 23/10/2006 23:24

Have looked on google and not sure it fits with a fissure. Oh im going to have to see what the pharmasist recommends!

Not sure....Lanacane is for itchy bums generally, but Anusol HC is for piles. Or Germaloids.
Also no idea what Google has to say about fissures, but when I had a small one it felt just like that - painful after a poo/on wiping and itchy sometimes the rest of the time (probably because it was trying to heal). Agree that gentle baby wipes best so as not to keep irritating it.
Good luck with pharmacist!

Spoke to the pharmasist and all she said was see the doctor. She couldn't recomment any cream.
So tomorrow morning I will book an appointment with the doctor.

EliBoo · 24/10/2006 22:26

Oh poor you, Tortoise....good to see doctor though, however it feels: only take a few minutes and worth it to be able to deal with it.

I've noticed I get it every few hours when the anusol wears off - and worst in the evenings/late afternoon, like you. Thing is, I'm generally itchy - being pregnant - so I also wonder about thrush. Sigh...

Let us know how it goes, eh? Good luck!

tortUREoisechamber · 24/10/2006 22:42

Thanks.Yes will let you know how i get on.
Hope i can get an appointment before the weekend!

ballbaby · 25/10/2006 13:07

You could see if sudocrem helps while you're waiting for your appointment. Good Luck.

tortUREoisechamber · 25/10/2006 15:59

Phoned the doctors. Best appointment i could get was for next friday!!
I can't do monday, tuesday or wednesday next week.
Also female doctor is on holiday next week so got to see bloke.
Sudocrem does help a little at night.

EliBoo · 25/10/2006 17:26

Tortoise, as you have to wait so long - why not buy some Anusol HC and/or Canesten HC?

tortoise · 06/11/2006 15:40

Meant to update this!
I have some cream.Dr didn't say it was anything in particular. Couldn't see anything. So have to see how the cream goes for a week and go back if still problems.

Coloured toilet paper can also cause irritation.
