My ds is 6 moths and a month ago, after moths of screaming and fussing during feeds, we were told he had reflux.
Things seemed to be improving, but last tuesday he had a tiny bit of blood on his lip, i put this down to the face that 2 teeth had come through over the weekend.

On saturday night i got him ready for bed, and went to get his gaviscon (was holding ds but faceing away) when i sat down to give it to him i found blood down his front, in and around his mouth.
Phoned out of hours gp, then went to a+e. Told to see gp today as he seemed ok by that time and they were unable to do a referal, only send up to wards.

Just seen gp who is quite sure it has come from his stomach, and needs to be investegated.

Has anybody else been through this? i was fine untill i got back and put ds to bed, now i am on my own i want to cry. I dont feel overly panicy, just upset as i have tried to do everything i can to give my baby the best start and then this happens.

oh littlepiggie, i haven't been through this but i just wanted to acknowledge your post. what a fright you must have got. good for you for not glossing over it, and now that the doctors are investigating i hope it will all be resolved quickly.
and you absolutely, positively are giving your baby the best start by beign a caring and vigilant mother... sometimes that means taking them to the doctor, it's just what happens...

Just wanted to let you know, just after i last poasted got a phone call to take him into hospital. after about 6 hours of prodding and tests they are pritty sure it came from a bleed in his osophagus (sp), Said that they will leave him for now as he is starting solids, but to go backk if it starts again.

AlfredAitchcock · 24/10/2006 12:21

so what do they think might have caused it? is this why you were looking for bland foods or can you now go back to normal stuff?

littlepiggie · 24/10/2006 20:25

Think it is from been sick all the time.
Before going on gaviscon he had to wear a bib that had to be changed anything upto every hour. He was bringing cottage cheese like sick up all the time. He also seemed to scream none stop.

It took untill he was about 4 1\2 months before anyone would listen to me, so with advise of mn i went armed and this time saw my gp. (its a HC with all GPs for tha area)

He was put on gaviscon and seemed to be imroving. He had stoped been sick all the time but was still doing wet burps, but seemed a lot happier.

He was a bit unsettled towards the end of last week, a bit like he was before gaviscon, then Saturday.

They said that as the food pipe is not meant to have stomach acid in it, it has burn it and causing a bleed.

Got to go back in a couple of weeks to see a consultant.

And stil going to keep things bland as dont want to make things worse, let things settle down a bit.
