Should I visit a podiatrist for this? Old foot injury from glass cuts.

More than a decade ago, I accidentally stepped on pieces of broken glass and cut my foot. One cut was a bit deep, but not very serious. Went to A&E and they took out the glass and took an X Ray to confirm no more glass shards left. Then bandaged me up and sent me home. Took me about a month before I could walk properly again. The wound healed into a callous on the sole of my foot.

Recently the spot around the callous started feeling a bit sore. Sometimes when I step on the spot, there is pain around it. I'm not sure what could be the problem. I just moved house and this house is an old Victorian house with hard floors downstairs. My extremities get cold easily and I can only surmise maybe it is the cold that aggravated my old injury. I have since then, made sure I always had socks and fleecy slippers on around the house so my feet are kept warm, which seems to help the soreness a bit.

Problem is it has been going on for just over a week and I can feel a slight swelling sort of pressure on that area of the foot but visually speaking, can't really see much redness or blueness or unusual swelling. I can feel it. It hurts a little if I step on the spot sometimes and the pain can sometimes shift places. When I press on the area, it doesn't really hurt all the time. Just sometimes, some spots hurt, but other times they don't.

I'm not sure what is the problem. But it is bothering me as it is affecting my walking. I'm not stumbling but I feel like I have to be quite careful about how I walk or it might trigger off some random pain. Should I visit a podiatrist about this or the GP? I am thinking it can't be there are still glass pieces there as the x ray showed there were none back then and I have gone through 2 pregnancies and even did a lot of pregnancy yoga, walking, aerobics and Zumba during the past 12 years with no problems.

Not sure why this is starting up now.

Go and see a podiatrist and get it looked at, they should be able to at least relieve the pain.

I went to the GP and she thinks it might be a stress fracture referred me for an X ray, which I had done yesterday. However radiographer told me he didn't see anything on the x ray that jumps out at him. He will send the x ray to his colleague at the hospital to have a look and told me to call my GP next Wednesday to ask about the results.

Meanwhile my right foot has now gotten a bit swollen in that area. It is not visibly red or swollen but when I wear shoes my right shoe is really tight around there. I also feel like there is swelling going on even when I'm not wearing shoes. Hurts to apply pressure to the area now. I just walk in a manner where I apply pressure to all other parts of my foot. A bit of a limp but if it's a stress fracture it may be missed on an x ray and shouldn't I get casted or something?

Anyway I don't know now if I should go to a podiatrist or wait for the results next week and see. I have a feeling they will just say they can't see anything on the x ray and that's it. I Google and they say CT scan or MRI might be able to detect stress fractures better... Can a podiatrist do these scans? The reason why I went to my GP is that I hoped they would do scans on my feet to see if there are broken bones or glass.

But if it is a stress fracture then shouldn't it be casted to prevent further damage and aid healing? And the long healing time of 6 to 8 weeks and the possibility of complications if not treated appropriately at first. I'm not sure if I should wait to see the GP now or go to a podiatrist. But also awaiting x ray results
