Having private scan will it affect me being with NHS?

I want a private scan now, to see what lump is in groin area ( ovaries etc) at one of those place they also do baby scans - sex etc.

Will this affect my nhs standing in anyway? will it throw me out the system?

I was assuming, they will tell me what is causing lump, if its cancer I can call GP tell him and go from there? rather than waiting for two weeks?

Having a scan will rarely give you a diagnosis in this sort of situation. For that you would need a medical opinion, biopsies etc. have you seen your GP and been referred hence the two week wait?

But to answer your question, the nhs won't throw you out. The scan may not speed things up, either. Scan reports can be extremely difficult to read and interpret so you would need a specialist doctor to do that anyway.

Yes doc has referred me.

However surely they can diagnose, fibroids, or cysts or stuff like that, it says they do on their blurb and I am sure these things are clear cut. And a sonographer can see them and say - you have a cysts...she said she would do tans vag scan, look, see adn tell....

Have you seen your GP at all? What is making you worry that it is cancer? The first thing that sprang to mind reading your post was a hernia. Having a private scan won't affect your standing on the NHS but as Mathilda says it is unlikely to speed things up much.

clean I am hoping its a hernia. its just fear its cancer. its peace of mind getting through next 10 days.

The position of a hernia is very different to a tumour on the ovaries or in the pelvis and any decent GP would have done an examination first on you and made some diagnosis.

No one will 'tell you' it's cancer just like that! For a start the person is unlikely to be qualified to do that. I would assume if they saw anything that needed investigation they would tell you to go back to your GP and send them the scan results. The person who does the scan will not always be a doctor- and there is no way- absolutely no way- they would diagnose cancer and throw you out on the street having said that and then leave it to you to sort out. That's not how these things work.

He didnt. I am referred for nhs scan.

He poked a finger at the lump and reffered me.

I suppose you are saying you are in the queue for the NHS and want to have a private scan first as you are worried?

There was exactly the same post a few months back from someone with a health anxiety who was doing the same as you.

If it's a lump that can be 'poked' then it's not anything to do with your ovaries. Your groin area that you refer to is where you legs meet your trunk. Your ovaries are not there.

There is another thread in chat also the same, I guess its a common thing, people discover a lump, are terrified and think of going private?
