Had a call from the hospital today today after a bone scan to say I am borderline for osteoporosis and they want to start me on Alendronic acid. They are writing to my GP for her to prescribe it.

It sounds pretty grim. Has anyone any experience to share?

I have hyperparathyroidism which causes calcium to leak from my bones. Endocrinologist has said dexa scan had shown a softening of the bones in my wrist (they didn't do a full body scan. He has prescribed alendronic 70mg once a week. Im concerned about side effects and cant bring myself to start taking it. I'm waiting for my dentist to contact me as I have a dental implant and suffer really bad sensitive teeth. I also have difficulty swallowing food at times following surgery to remove the middle of my thyroid. I already get acid reflux due to a small hernia. Im 64. The side effects look very worrying.
