Just wondered if there had been any research into it, etc. Anyone in the know?

I do think it is important to realise that vaccinations are not 100% effective. Sometimes they don't work and they can cause adverse reactions. In the case of meningitis one of the most deadly forms, Group B meningococcal is still not vaccine preventable (as far as I know?). And even the vaccine against pneumococcal meningitis is not effective against all strains of the disease. It would be impossible to vaccinate against EVERY single strain. That is why it is so important for parents and particularly medics and nurses to have a high index of suspicion with a seriously ill child. My experience is that the medical profession can be highly complacent about serious infections. My daugher was left with crippling complications following a serious infection which was not properly treated. (NO vaccine available for it and there never will be a vaccine available for it). The fact is, your child could have 1,000 vaccines and STILL become seriously ill with an infection. Don't let the fact that your child has been vaccinated make you complacent. If you know that your child is very ill, you have to make a REAL fuss - you shouldn't have to, but that is the reality of our lovely NHS service. I don't want to be a scaremonger, but if your child is in the unlucky tiny minority to get very ill, you have to really fight their corner. If one hospital won't take it seriously, go to another. Believe me, you will have to live with the consequences of it all and the constant thought of "if only I had done this or that..." Having said all that, I am a totally unfussy mother, I couldn't give a stuff about colds, bruises etc - but the fact is you just KNOW when your own child is seriously ill.
