...without worrying their nearests and dearests?

NC but regular NOTE TO SELF-CHECK BEFORE POSTING

I've had horrible bowel issues for ages- had a colonoscopy two years ago which was fine

now having increasing eps of diarrhoea- sometimes bloody and/or mucousy- now more frequent. Currently up to 6 days on the bounce, barely able to leave the house in case Have Accident

went to GPs yesterday who referred me for a poo test, a blood test and another colonoscopy

am worried it's colitis or other IBS. Don't want to talk to dp about it much as I don't want to upset him unless I need to iykwim- he knows the bare bones of it but am going to wait till I get colonoscopy/other test results

even tho am keeping it on the back burner the kids know about the diarrhoea they can't miss it the house stinks because I can't take them to school, my friend's taking them in. I'm letting them walk part way home on their own- historically I've resisted it but am selling it to them as Increased Independence and they are enjoying it- they've pestered me to do it long enough Smile

I thought I was doing really well with them- until last night when the eldest (17, and no stranger to health anxiety) asked if I had cancer Sad

so I thought I'd try and offload here. Anyone else want to join in? Any afflictions and ailments welcome

Have a hand. And some Flowers

My DH is having a CT scan tomorrow morning to check for possible recurrence of cancer. He's only 38 and we have two little children. I'm trying to stay strong when I just want to sit in a corner rocking back and forth with a bottle of gin.

I'm sorry you're having a miserable time too. Have you been prescribed any medication to ease the discomfort and diarrhea while you wait for test results? It must be so hard with teenagers who are aware of what's going on. I'm grateful that mine are small enough to be oblivious.

MadamePapin · 11/02/2015 07:49

wishing you lots of luck today. Will they let DH know anything today, or do you have to go and see a consultant when the results come through?

Think probably worse being a Nearest And Dearest in a way. Especially when you have to be all supportive and positive and you just feel like howling. Throwing little children into the mix too must be very, very hard

I would imagine that sometimes they work as a distraction, but sometimes the constant demand for attention must be v hard when your mind is elsewhere

Good luck to all the Frumbles today Flowers

Sorry you guys are having such a horrible time of it Flowers

Could be Crohns? Better than the other C word. I have life-long problems of the bowel so I understand the fears.

Good luck!

MrsPinotGrigio · 11/02/2015 11:33

Another 1 saying it may be Crohns. I have this & have most of the symptoms you describe. Blood tests can only tell you so much but a faecal caprotectin test from a stool sample gives a good indication of inflammation in the bowel. Good luck with your tests Thanks
mrsfrumble hope all goes well with your DH's tests & you get good news x

MadamePapin · 11/02/2015 11:53

ally and MrsPinot

thank you both Flowers

I thought possibly Crohns too. In the middle of the night when everyone's asleep and I'm stuck in the toilet, I like to while away the time wondering which is the nicest out of Crohn's and ulcerative colitis

tbh both of them sound like really hard work

I'm a coeliac which is a cakewalk by comparison Grin

that's the Best C word by a mile

Crohn's has more complications than UC as far as I know because the whole digestive tract can be affected. I'm having surgery at the end of the month to remove a narrowing in my bowel but until now I've managed my condition with medication, steroids occasionally & diet.

MadamePapin · 11/02/2015 12:55

oh I see MrsPinot

you're doing super well. And thanks for helping!

I had a look at that old, really long colitis/Crohn's thread you were on- in fact that's what made me think it might possibly be one or tother (in the face of alarming symptoms think mn is usually best bet- rather than Google which is invariably terrifying)
