Is there something wrong with me?

Hi all, bit worried there is something wrong with me. DS is 15 months and a really good sleeper but ever since he was born I seem to have a level of exhaustion that I can't shake off. I would say I get about 7-8 hours of sleep a night now most nights but this still doesn't seem to be enough. By the time DS goes to sleep in the evening I am pretty much a zombie and am always in bed early just lying down even if I'm not sleeping. It's got so bad that I've even started sleeping when DS sleeps in the daytime if I'm at home with him. I've had blood tests which doctor said came back normal so I don't really know what it is! I never used to be like this! Hate it because it makes me feel lazy..

What has your GP said about it?
It is tiring running around after a little one all day!
Have you tried a diet change like a detox or something. I know if you have a lack of vitamin B12 can make you tired.
Also apparently a good exercise routine is meant to do wonders even if it's a quick walk for 20-30 mins.

Hi there, just another voice to suggest that you get your b12 looked at. It doesn't seem to be something that is in a routine blood test. A deficiency makes you tired and you can feel a lack of energy/motivation despite getting enough sleep. I have just found out I'm (very) deficient and I now realise I have been tired since my pregnancies! My symptoms got worse and I became anemic which is why I ended up doing the test. It is a test well worth doing IMO as deficiency is common, unpleasant, not good for you but easily fixed with supplements. Hope you get to the bottom of things, good luck.

Also vitamin D deficiency can make you exhausted and v v common. My bones were being affected mine was so bad and I'm outdoors a lot, there just isn't enough sun.
Have you ruled out food intolerances? I can't eat wheat and this started quite soon after DD1's arrival, but I didn't work it out for years as you think being tired after s baby is normal. But you know when it's normal tiredness you expect and when it feels worse

I would ask for a print out of the results. 'Normal' or 'within range' does not mean optimal. Have you had ferritin (iron storage) checked?

Hi all, thanks for your responses and sorry for the late reply I have been working like a dog (!) I have decided to try and fit in two or three jogs a week, drink more water and cut out wheat and refined sugar and see if this makes a difference.

Snowwyjane can I buy B12 as a vitamin?

If no better I think I will go back to doctors... Just hope its something I can sort out. Hate feeling like this!!

Yeah you can, I used to take them!
Ask at your local health store. Holland and Barrett deffo have them!

I hope you feel better soon!

I felt like that for months after DC1 was born. I assumed it was normal. But even when she was sleeping through, I was still getting more and more exhausted and couldn't concentrate, etc. Turns out pretty much my entire maternal female side has B12 issues, but due to everybody assuming everyone else was telling everyone else my family branch didn't get the recommendation to go get tested. I had to battle my GP as she swore blind there was no way I could have low B12, but in the end she ran the tests and I was low on B12!

Don't take any B12 supplements before you get tested as these can skew the results. Also, if you do turn out to be low get them to attempt to identify the cause before you get treatment as the standard causation test can also be skewed by it. I have only found this out after switching GPs, the initial GP was so unhappy that I was right she put me on jabs straight away so I'm down as being diet deficient and can't get anything other than a jab every 12 weeks unless I get more tests proving I'm low before that. Apparently I can be diagnosed properly now but I have to come off the jabs, and tbh the lows at the end of a 12 week cycle are bad enough without skipping a few jabs.

ITrulyMoustache thanks for that I am going to google B12 now and find out more about deficiency. I will make another appointment with doctor then before getting the B12 vits xx
