Driving myself mad with blood results. If it turns out it isn't lupus what could it be?

Had some blood results back (just in letter form from a consultant who doesn't want to see me again).

It says:

FBC, ENA, Dsdna, C3, C$, C1 esteraze inhibitor, autoimmune profile, immunoglobulins, tryptase and total IgE are normal.

ANA highly positive 1.1280 need to be repeated with other tests to exclude SLE. Vitamin d deficient needs supplements two times a day for four months.

I'm a bit annoyed as consultant didn't tell me she suspected SLE (but the letter says she did).

I repeated the bloods today but the results can take up to two weeks. Will try and get a call from my gp but in the meantime can anyone help? I just want to know what the other options are really.

I've had a coeliacs screen, it's standard now in anyone with type one diabetes apparently?! Still got another week at least before I get the results. I'm 99% sure it isn't lupus though.

I thought ds DNA was the main one for SLE
Double stranded DNA
Sounds like you have urticaria. Which is usually idiopathic but occ has an underlying causeNot sure about the significance of the ANA positive titre though .

SpottyTeacakes · 13/02/2015 05:32

Yep the immunologist states I have four different type of ulticaria and an intolerance of salicylates

Anaemia often goes hand in hand with auto immune diseases and makes a person feel horrible for long periods of time. It can take months of taking iron before getting better, and even then can get bouts of feeling worse again.

SpottyTeacakes · 13/02/2015 06:20

I think my iron levels are fine? My FBC came back normal. Also my esr and crp are normal so no inflammation which is good.

Worthless update:

The secretary told me today that my partial thromboplastin was abnormal but the one stage prothrombin time was normal. She put me on hold for ages and then came back and said it was fine nothing to worry about we just need to wait for the rpt ana still ARGH!!

Thats when reading from a screen when untrained isnt helpful!! APTT being slightly low on the report will be classed as ' abnormal' but is not clinically relevant whuch is no doubt what the GP told her.

SpottyTeacakes · 18/02/2015 03:16

Yes she didn't tell me if it was low or high just that the Dr who filed it didn't know why I had it done!

Well, my gut reaction on reading your thread was that Sjogren's might be a possibility, but I'm surprised that wasn't mentioned.

Have a read www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/bhcv2/bhcarticles.nsf/pages/Sjogren%27s_syndrome here to see if it matches up - you'll see that skin rashes are a possibility, and difficulty swallowing would be due to a lack of saliva.

Having Type I diabetes might be predisposing to this, I don't know but a quick Google came up with this:
www.garvan.org.au/news-events/news/breakthrough-study-links-type-1-diabetes-and-sjogren2019s-syndrome

I'm not a doctor, but I worked in hospital labs for 10 years and have a post grad qualification in immunology - not that it makes me any kind of expert but I'm not entirely without knowledge either.

SpottyTeacakes · 18/02/2015 05:44

Thanks that's interesting. I don't have dry eyes or mouth though or any difficulty swallowing (yet!). When I ring Friday to see if my other results are in I'll ask them what the APTT was.

Behcets? Have they mentioned that?

I think the key here is that you're looking at some kind of autoimmune disease (in addition to the autoimmune disease you already have). You may obviously need drugs and/or other therapies, but have you also considered looking at your diet?

Thumbwitch · 18/02/2015 06:04

The ANA test (anti-nuclear antibodies) is a relatively non-specific test for autoimmune conditions
www.racgp.org.au/afp/2013/october/antinuclear-antibody-test/ this is a doctor's set of information about it.

SpottyTeacakes · 18/02/2015 06:26

Thumbwitch that's interesting. I'm going to ask the pattern of this ana result when it comes through but the original I had at the hospital was just typed on the letter so it doesn't say. It seems this could all lead to nothing in the end apart from maybe annual tests to see what's happening.

Nothing has been mentioned apart from lupus. The immunologist said I should look at cutting out salicylates but that's it (I haven't done this!)

Can I just add I'm not driving myself mad with these anymore Grin just fed up of waiting and not having any answers!

It was 37 seconds. Our lab puts normal at 20-35 so hardly out.
