Puking, is it teething, learning to sit or what?

My ds1 is 6mths tomorrow. He has already cut two teeth at the bottom which caused no problems but in the last 2/3 days he has become really frustrated, cranky and a little sicky. I can not work out why. His diet has not changed but I am encouraging him to sit as he appears to want to do this. I am also helping him lie on his front and he stretches out to his toys and kicks his legs. He can do this for quite a bit but then he becomes frustrated.

When he plays on his mat in this way he frantically bites everything he puts his hand to or that I have in my hand. He gets very cross and it seems that every time I gather him up he pukes over me. He never gets upset by this it appears normal to him.

I always leave ample time after a feed before he plays on the floor like this. I just cant figure out if he is upset because,

he.. a) wants to crawl/sit but cant do either alone

b)is teething or..

c) has a tummy upset that I am ignoring and puting down to his new positioning.

Can anyone help does this make any sense?

You say his diet has not changed ... is he just having milk? If he's on solids already, he may be having more of whatever he's having, and any intolerances may start to become apparent.

It's just a thought, because my ds2 started puking regularly at 6.5 months, and it took me 2.5 months to work out that it corresponded to the time when he started having dairy products. (Oops - yes, I am a bit slow sometimes ).

Of course, if he's always been on formula, then the above would not apply.

He is having solids a varied diet of 3 meals plus formula milk. He has been fed formula the same brand from about month 2. He started solid food after 4 months. He has cereal plus fruit @brkfast either veg or fruit for lunch and rice with fruit for supper. I only introduce a new food every few days but havent introduced anything new lately. I assumed I would have picked up an intolerance from his nappies which dont seem to be showing any real problems.

How would you suggest working out what food he might be intolerant to?

ps thanks for posting a message back to me, its the first time I have ever posted a note, I have used the website from preganancy but never posted a message until today, ( i have posted 2 now!)

My DS is also 6 months and doing the exact same thing, however we are also confused as to why he is constantly vom all over the place, when sits, up and also when turns over on mat. he also seems to be otherwise quite happy (although v messy) he is bf but also on a variety of solids now. any suggestions gratefully recieved as washing pile is getting bigger!

sorry cant help ypu mines 7 months and going through it now strange though its 2 hours after eating or drinking anything

Lysa - great to see you posting! If he's been on formula so long he can't be dairy intolerant. I'm not sure what's going on - maybe someone else can help.

Is the cereal wheat based? Any citrus fruit? You could try some probiotics and/or flax seed oil in with some pureed fruit before breakfast and tea, that cured my ds's vomiting and I finally got some photos of him without a bib on.

thanks everybody, glad to hear there are others listening to the constant buzz of the wash machine. I still am bemused as to the real explanation. The cereal he has is porridge so not wheat based and his supper is rice so, I don't think I can put it down to that. However, I am becoming increaingly convinced that it is connected to his teething and or mobility rather than diet. I hope its not wishful thinking and that he really is liking my cooking!

It seems to be improving and today his cheeks arent as red and he isnt biting so furiously. I also think he is becomign more and more confident and used to twisting and turning, but who really knows.

My DS is 7 months old and has always been a 'chunderer'. However, from reading this, realise that he might still be being sick and it's ok. Other babies are doing it. I do find that if I give him water/juice at mealtimes, he pukes shortly afterwards. If I leave him without a drink, he is ok. Hope this helps
