Very amusing I might add
I am due to go into hosp for lazor treatment (eeeekkk)They will take my coil out in order to do this. My dh and I are debating whether or not to let them put another one back in, as I have had nothing but trouble with it. Dh is deciding whether to be sterilised but neither of us know anything about it.
He is worried he won't function properly (iykwim)
He says if he can't ejaculate then he won't do it...anyone know what the effects of sterilisation are (for him)?

I'm not an expert but I think they can ejaculate, just with no swimmers in there!

NotQuiteCockney · 20/10/2006 12:45

Only a tiny amount of ejaculate is made up of sperm - after a vasectomy, men ejaculate pretty much the same amount etc etc.

lulumama · 20/10/2006 12:45

i am sure he will ejaculate...bit without swimmers...just the fluid...that;s why you have to take 2 samples to the hospital to be tested before you go completely contraception free...

VanillaMilkshake · 20/10/2006 12:46

He will still work normally but will fire blanks!

My DH has looked into 'the snip' but after finding out it's rather painful from some friends and workmates has decided not to go for it.

katzg · 20/10/2006 12:46

nhs direct info

whooooooogoesthere · 20/10/2006 12:46

My DH had op absolutely no difference whatsoever
just nice knowing that I wont get pregnant

Iklboo · 20/10/2006 12:46

He'll still be able to ejaculate the fluid, it's just that no little swimmers get mixed in.

Sperm are stored in the testes. When a bloke 'cums', the sperm swim down the vas deferens (a tube thingy) where they get mixed with the fluid. in a vas-ectomy, they cut & seal the vas deferens so the sperm can't get to the fluid. The fluid still comes out like normal and makes a wet patch on your sheets

spiderplant · 20/10/2006 12:46

oooh good...he'll be pleased! How do they stop the swimmers but leave the juice?????

The actual process takes 10 mins. There will be some bruising and a little discomfort for a few days. May have to take paracetamol for the first day. We didn't have sex for about a week or so after until the stitches started to dissolve. DH says it doesn't feel any different and it certainly feels fantastic for me!!!!!

spiderplant · 20/10/2006 12:51

oh sorry icklboo...didn't see yours there...thankyou! I see now

My dh has had the snip. He had slight swelling and bruising but nothing major. He even got the bus home after the procedure and picked my dd up from school 2hrs later. He sat with a cushion on his "bits", for a day or two just in case ds decided to jump on top of him. He had the procedure done on a Friday and was back at work on the Monday.

BATtymumma · 20/10/2006 12:57

goodluck with the laser treatment.

i would imagine they would advise you against having the coil replaced anyway.

I have had lots of laser treatment along with quite a fair bot of more invasive treatment for cancerous cells so know how daunting the process can be.
it doesn't hurt, it is uncomfortable but there isn't any real pain. the Dr's are very nice and will try and make you feel as easy as possible....i know that its hard sat with your legs akimbo.

good luck

sleepfinder · 20/10/2006 14:22

all I know is when our pet dog was snipped he went from being a lively creature who couldn't wait to get outside (and hump a leg) to a lump which was like trying to drag a carpet out of the house for a walk....

PrincessPeaHead · 20/10/2006 14:24

ah but sleepfinder they chopped his balls off

not the same thing at all

TheDaVinciCod · 20/10/2006 14:26

whaqt htread?

Snowboo · 20/10/2006 14:26

ive had laser treatment and more, i cant have coil fitted so dh is considering the snip....apparently it all works well after!

dh had same q about the fluid.

MrsDoolittle · 20/10/2006 14:27

That's because he was probably quite young when he was castrated. Dogs and horses that are castrated 'later in life' have already developed their stud tendencies and so tend to stay like that.

sleepfinder · 20/10/2006 14:37

er no, dog was not young, was definitely "middle aged" in dog years

also - they didn't cut his balls off, they snipped him in the same manner as a human op - I remember still seeing two very distinct balls on him afterwards...

this is getting silly, I'll go away...

spiderplant · 20/10/2006 14:55

Thankyou BATtymumma,
I am slightly worried, I am hoping this might be the last of it. I had a colposcopy, and the cells weren't cancerous but needed removing incase it developed in the future.
Hate the whole thing, but thanks for your words of support!
Hope you are ok too
