I seem to feel the cold more than anyone I know.

Does anyone feel the cold so badly that they really worry about it? I can wear thermal underwear and several layers of clothing & still feel feel icy cold. Could there be an underlying health problem?

Interesting thread. I too have low blood pressure and feel the cold terribly. My middle fingers also go pure white with the cold. That sometimes happens when I pick something out of the freezer.

I had my thyroid checked but a few years ago. My mum has an underactive thyroid which is always at the back of my mind too.

In the springtime I'm always shocked to see people out in short sleeves and I still have a coat and scarf on.

There's a mum at the school that really gets on my nerves and says things like, oh here comes the Eskimo. I really want to tell her to fuck off.

I've always felt the cold more than others, except my mother who suffers with Reynauds. The last couple of years have been bad for me, as I've had suspected thyroid issues (one borderline result, am going to gp tomorrow to see the level of the latest though I know its been declared within normal range).

I'm typing this feeling like a block of ice - my thermostat says 20, I'm under a 13tog duvet and I'm wearing thermals, two pairs of socks and hand warmers. Until my toes and fingers warm up I will feel freezing, then when they warm up I'll overheat and be drenched with sweat. I have no in-between temperature. Whatever this is it's not fun.

IHeartKingThistle · 08/02/2015 22:49

Moustache I overheat really easily too - I often say I have no thermostat. I am either too hot or too cold, all the time. I've never heard of it being linked to thyroid, that's interesting. But cold does feel like physical pain to me.

Can any of you detect a change in temperature easily? I'll be downstairs and will notice the draft from a window left open upstairs!

I've also got low bp. Thyroid was fine though.

Hi Everyone.
Thanks for all your experiences /advice. I'm booked in for a fasting blood test in 2 wks time. When I went into the surgery I was wearing a long sleeved thermal vest, two woolen jumpers and a heavy duffle coat. My hands were still cold. The doctor felt them and said "oh that's definitely not right". The surgery was obviously warm and he was sitting there in his shirt sleeves! I think he wondered if I was one of the living dead! I'll keep you posted, but I've been tested before & it was negative. Fingers crossed because I'm worried about it getting worse.

I also used to feel the cold terribly and had a whole wardrobe of ankle length puffas, lots of woollens etc. I am an expert on thermal layers, merino v. heat tech etc. it got worse and worse and then about 18 months ago I developed Raynauds..... however something seems to have changed in my body in the last year and I don't know what it is! The Raynauds has gone and for the first time (in 15 or more years) I am not feeling the cold any more (and I spend an awful lot of time standing around in playgrounds in the freezing cold). It is very odd, the only thing I can think is that pregnancies (I have had three in the last 5 years) have changed my hormone levels. I am not doing any more exercise, my weight hasn't changed dramatically etc. I do have low BP though, I always have, and that hasn't changed. Hopefully this might happen for you!

I had terrible Reynauds as a teenager and it disappeared when I had kids too . Still a cold person and still need to wear gloves, but the pain and purple/blue/grey/red hands are thankfully gone.

gormenghast · 11/02/2015 23:26

Hi Deux
You want to touch that irritating playground mum with your ice cold hands. Then perhaps she'll understand why you're all bundled up. I have a friend who used to go on and on on about the amount of clothing I wear. I put my hands on her cheeks. She's not mentioned it since. ( I did ask her permission first!)

Try Vitamin D. Worked for me.

spooktrain · 12/02/2015 17:06

before I was diagnosed hypothyroid I was so cold I thought I would never get warm again. Totally identify with that cold leg feeling too.
The feelings of depression fit into that scenario too.
The thing about the blood tests is that even if you only show up as borderline on the tests, you could still feel really terrible symptom wise. If you are in this situation you need a doc who takes both the bloods and all th e symptoms into account.
Are you feeling slow mentally as well? Any hair loss, nails breaking off? Terrible tiredness?
