Apparetnly natural unsweetened yoghurt is also a good healer for them?

Pineapple gives my mum mouth ulcers. There's something in pineapple that dissolves mucous membrane, apparently, which is the same reason why it can help precipiate labour.

Adcortyl in Orabase is the best, ime. It can be sticky but if you can follow the instructions it should be okay. I find that putting it on last thing at night really helps and by morning that inflammed stingy feeling has usually subsided a lot. You can also buy Corlan Pellets, which are a mild cortisone tablet, to suck.

I, and my family, all suffer from mouth ulcers. I have found that mine tend to occur just before my period and last for about a week. I use Adcortyl in Orabase which can be bought over the counter at your local pharmacy. Certain toothpastes can make it worse apparently, I think it's the Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, and I haven't found one that doesn't have it! Hope this helps

I get them when I am extremely tired and run down, not eating properly, full of flu etc.
I have always sucked strepsils as the anaesthetic stops the pain and the antiseptic clears them up quicker.

How weird to see this thread when I was going to start one last week!!!
I get them all the time and very rarely have a mouth completely free of one either coming/going/raging.

Gp doesn't really know cause or cure.....nor does dentist.

I find the best (only) pain killer is Anbesol...which stings like mad but is worth it for 15 minutes of relief!!!

Aloe vera toothpaste is pretty good and doesn't have SLS I don't think.

Mine is not due to stress, chocolate or strong coffee as 'experts' have told me......my dad had them so I think it is hereditary also.

Some good ideas on this thread that I haven't tried before but will now do so!!

suedonim · 20/10/2006 20:56

Dettajnr, I don't think Weleda tootpastes have SLS in them, they're made of natural ingredients.

DettaJnr · 20/10/2006 21:25

Suedonim, thanks for that. I have been cutting SLS out in other areas as well and it seems to be everywhere!
Coggy, that's interesting as both my parents and four siblings all get mouth ulcers and I am never without at least one. Glad to know I am not the only one.

suedonim · 20/10/2006 21:37

I forgot to say, Detta, supermarkets don't often stock all/any Weleda toothpastes but a chemist's should either have them or be able to get it for you. Or you can order direct from Weleda. Hth.

coggy · 20/10/2006 23:16

Blimin' pain aren't they Detta?
Have you noticed any difference in cutting out the SLS?

I'm very interested in anything that I can do to help make them more bare-able!!

DettaJnr · 23/10/2006 13:01

Coggy, wasn't netting over w/end, sorry about late reply.

I have had some improvement with the mouth ulcers using Forever Living Aloe Vera toothpaste, but it does have some SLS in it. And for the really bad ones Adcortyl in Orabase. I also find that I don't have 'dandruff' anymore with the SLS free shampoo, no itchy skin etc. (another thread I suppose).

I did find that I rarely got any mouth ulcers while pregnant except for the beginning of the first trimester. So for me, they must be hormone related.

coggy · 23/10/2006 14:53

Mine too I reckon!
That is weird.........I was telling my doctor-friend the other day that the only time I ever remember being ulcer free was when I was pg.
She had never heard of it being hormone related......

I'm glad you think that too!
I think I am hormone/ hereditary and damage related!!!
Not much hope for me and my mouth really is there!!!

JessaJackOLantern · 23/10/2006 15:01

oh I'm so glad other people are having mysterious outbreaks too!
Well...when I say glad obviously that's not exactly what I mean

But DH and I have both had (and I still have) a bout of several ulcers/sores on tongue recently (farking hurt, can't even eat a choccy digestive )

coggy · 23/10/2006 20:21

I find that chocolate hurts more than anything to eat.......'spose it coats the ulcer.....second worse....tomatoes.

Aaaaarrrgghhh the pain!!!!!!
