I had it after dd was born by caesarean section. I was really ill with it for about five days then just felt merely rubbish for about a month after
I would not recommend it to my worst enemy. Combined with getting over the c-section AND trying to b/f a very jaundiced dd I would not describe it as one of my better Augusts.
As a reasonably healthy woman of 40 I don't think my life was ever in danger albosmum. I know it can be a very different issue if an elderly person gets it so I really hope that is not why you are asking

My dad caught it whilst he was in hospital, once it was actually identified, antibiotics cleared the bug from his motions within a few days, but he was left with diarrhea for what seemed like an eternity.

Unfortunatley my dad wasn't a well man anyway, in his 80's, he had chronic COPD and was oxygen dependant, and although the c'diff cleared from his system it really knocked him about and he never really recovered properly and sadly he died from pnuemonia 3 months later

delllie thats awful
i have looked after people with c diff and it was usually caused by other antibiotics they were on but the right ones cleared it up iyswim. it's nasty and does impede recovery and does spread but you will feel better in the long term. diarrhoea can last for a week or so but will feel ill for a while after as you can get v dehydrated and weak. it's been a long time since had to deal with it so hope not missing anything out. hth

sorry my message was a bit upsetting and blunt . as far as im aware the frail patients were the ones that died and the stronger ones recovered. id suggest googling it but sometimes you read stuff that you wish you hadnt. i do hope your friend recovers

7up · 19/10/2006 20:39

just googled it and it says you can have c-diff for 2months to 1 year and most people recover after combinations of antibiotics but even when recovered can still have relapses. hope this helps

albosmum · 19/10/2006 20:44

thats ok 7up thanks for googling it 4 me i am always wary of internet medicine because of the scare stories - thats why i asked on here instead
