Plantar fasciitis

I've self diagnosed plantar fasciitis in my left foot. I can only put it down to suddenly wearing a particular pair of boots much more often (new puppy) and as they are really childrens boots, perhaps they don't have the same type of support etc as adult boots (they are Timberlands so good quality I'd hope but childrens nonetheless)

Any tips please for dealing with it? Self treat? Seek help?
Hold of all non essential walking?

I've just come back from walking the puppy. There was a discomfort while walking but now that I've stopped and sat down for a drink....OMG, agony ??

TIA

Hi, I had this in the summer through wearing flat ballet type shoes it was agony & walking when getting up in the morning was so painful but it eased off throughout the day but my feet felt so stiff .
I had an old rolling pin that i used on the soles of my feet that helped a bit but the only cure is to stop wearing the shoes that are causing it & buy some that have a bit of a heel... I only get the condition during the summer months when I'm wearing flats.. Hope that you feel better

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT every go barefoot or wear flat shoes. This is what helped me, and I've had it twice:

  • rolling foot on a frozen water bottle
  • standing on the stairs with my heel hanging off the edge
- pushing against a wall with both hands and alternate with one leg stretched out behind you. - sit on the floor, legs stretched out straight in front. Wrap a scarf/towel around one foot and pull the scarf towards you in order to stretch the calf. - get some proper PF insoles (mine came from a physio friend) - Never go barefoot or wear flats. - Invest in some FitFlops. I also got on well with MBTs. Apparently they give you a nice bum too Smile

thank you for the extra posts.
I've not been out of my various trainers these last few days.

I'm doing all those stretches (bar the sitting down one which I'm about to go and do now).

I am guilty of being barefoot at home but I'm not a flip flop/ballet shoe girl because I broke a few metatarsals in one foot many many years ago and still get twinges if I'm footwear that my toes have to cling on to.

Nothing wrong with barefoot as long as your feet are strong. Strong feet also helps with PF. Whilst healing obvs support your PF etc, but once healed need to work on strengthening feet or will be at risk of happening again.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 27/01/2015 21:55

Nothing wrong with going barefoot if your feet are OK, but it's a big no-no if you have PF.
FitFlops are particularly good because they provide extra support to the plantar fascia whilst it heels and they help take the pressure of it.

Thank you. I've just recovered my holiday FitFlops from the loft and they are now my indoor slippers Grin

I've had PF for over a year since doing a lot of walking one day on a hard surface wearing boots with thin soles.

It's manageable at the moment. I agree rolling feet over frozen can/bottle really helps, as do some of the stretches mentioned earlier. Definitely don't walk around in bare feet and try to wear shoes with a small heel.

What really really got mine under control though was wearing Sketcher's Go walk shoes. Not hugely attractive but SOOOO comfy. Memory foam insole and spongy thick soles which cushion your feet against everything. You can get them in pretty much any colour.

Mckenzie if you are struggling to understand the stretchers look on patient.co.uk they do pictures also on arthritis research council info sheet.

Thanks for the extra posts. I'm ok with the stretches I think. It's mentally, I need to get me head sorted.

I've had tennis elbow since last june which has stopped ( or hampered) me doing the things I love best but running and walking have kept me sane.
Now I can't run or walk very far I'm miserable and comfort eating instead. Really not good. Sad

Take heart though - I woke up one day and it had just gone. It also coincided with me losing quite a bit of weight, which makes sense, as, again, that's less pressure on the underside of your foot.

So, just back from the physio.......

Bloody self diagnosis Blush.
It's not plantar fasciitis, it's just me suddenly wearing flat boots to walk in Twice a day with the puppy when I'm pronating.
Orthotics and a bit more stretching and I'll be fine.

And the tennis elbow that was diagnosed properly last june by my GP?Probably actually a torn tendon based on the tests he did and the pain. Scan tomorrow morning to show.
