I think night feeds are sending me slightly doolally.

How much sleep does an adult need each night? 8 hours or something?

I read an article recently which said that a study had found that subjects who had between 4 and 6 hours of sleep for 2 weeks had the same loss of cognitive function as someone who hadn't slept at all for 2 days. Shock Thus, sleep deprivation has a cumulative effect . I've had sleepless nights for 8 bloody years!!!

But yes, I think 7-8 hours is recommended.

Looking back pre-baby I think I got 9 hours a night.

NINE HOURS!!!!

Now my day starts at 4.30am! :)

It's the breaking and interruption of the sleep cycle that does it.

It does get better...Many mums netters are living proof.

I like 8 hours ideally, but I can cope with 6 or 7.

When dc were tiny I remember advice on MN was to ask a friend or relative to give you a break so you can 'catch up'. But when feeding the baby, dc only wanted me. So tricky! Take care. Hope you catch some quality zzzzz's soon.

Around seven hours is sufficient for most healthy adults. People vary, of course, and some manage perfectly well on less than that, but you're right that lack of sleep will, over time, drive you doolally! If you're missing sleep during the night you need to go to bed earlier and/or get up later/nap in order to get enough hours. Adults really need UNINTERRUPTED sleep to feel well rested, which is the thing that's impossible to get with a baby, but getting enough hours, even in smaller chunks, is better than not.

Agreed. I think I just need to go to bed as soon as my baby goes down, around 7ish. It will still be broken sleep, but more of it.

I can't complain. She's here and healthy!!

I think sleeping when the baby sleeps is a fab Idea, and Cleaning when the baby cleans , sort laundry when the baby sorts laundry, pay bills when the baby pays bills, prepare a meal ......you get the Idea Grin
