Wisdom teeth removal with 5month old baby

Hello

I was wondering if anyone has had all their Wisdom teeth removed? How painful was the recovery? How did this impact on your day to day usual activities?

I am currently on maternity leave with a five month old baby and although I have my mother in law staying I feel guilty about leaving him completely in other peoples care.

I had my wisdom teeth out when I was 17, I didn't swell up like tge horror stories you hear and was able to eat a hotdog (slowly) a few hours later! I must add that I am a very greedy person Grin

On a more related note, I had my gall bladder removed when my twins were 6 weeks old (after a very recent c section) and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. My mother and dh looked after the babies for the 13 hours I was in hospital and I was able to come home and resume the many night feeds.

Good luck!

I had all mine removed under GA. I was sore but not in pain after and could eat soft foods ok. Mine were badly impacted and so I did have a lot of swelling but that passed quickly enough.

I have had all my wisdom teeth removed (2, then 1 then 1 several years apart). The first day was bad in that I couldn't eat much but it didn't really throw me that much. If you have your mother in law staying to help (bring baby to you, prepare food erc) then you should be fine if you go easy. I just felt weak more than anything - but that was the effect of the general anaesthetic. Hope it goes smoothly.

Oh and I was out of everyday activities for 2-3 days when I had 2 out at once. Quicker when I just had one out.

I'm so thick I thought "oh my god this woman's five month old has wisdom teeth.!" Blush

However, I can help as I had mine all out in one go about 6 years ago. Recovery was fairly simple but main worry with kids to look after would be the effects of the painkillers. I felt pretty dopey for about 3 days and needed to sleep a lot. I don't think I managed real food until 4 ish days later so be very careful if you are breastfeeding.

In total I had a week off work but, again, mainly due to painkillers meaning I couldn't drive.

So with another adult around, I think you'd be ok plus would still be able to do some of the childcare yourself.

I had two out when ds was 7 months or so, it was fine. I wasn't at my brightest and best and didn't feel like going out and about much, but I was able to function. Take the painkillers, follow the aftercare routine (that is important because you won't be able to function properly with an abscess or infection) and be prepared to be off your food for a bit.

Mil can take baby out for a walk for a couple of days and you'll be back to normal in no time.

Disclaimer: I didn't have a GA, not sure if that's what you're talking about, I believe that can be a different story wrt recovery.

I had mine all out under ga.

Oops meant to say I felt v dopey for 24 hours and then unluckily got an infection. DH was in charge for 3 days. I couldn't have managed a baby so could be hard is breast feeding. However if bottles would just let your mil take over for a bit. I'm sure she'd love it!

Had one removed at the dentist with local.Would have been ok but it broke so had to go back later to hospital for removal under GA.Had to be there about 7am as 3 or 4 on list that day.Couldn't do much apart from sit on sofa for a couple of days and eat yoghurt as the painkillers left me feeling wiped out.Took about 4 days to recover .To be honest if you have a 5 month old baby this is possibly the easiest time for someone else to look after them until they start school so if you have help available now, have the surgery soon.

JustTryEverything, you're not the only thick one. I clicked on this thread out of pure shock at the thought of a dear little 5 month old having to deal with wisdom teeth Shock. It's like one of those 'body shocker' documentaries.

Sorry Op, I'm no help whatsoever but hope it all goes well.

I had 3 impacted wisdom teeth removed under sedation, I was completely off my face after the sedation and talking all sorts of rubbish, which my Mum in particular found hilarious. So definitely make sure you are free to sleep off the sedation/GA and leave baby in safe hands of someone else!

The recovery really wasn't too bad, regular painkillers for the first couple of days and soft food, I had booked time off work but really only needed the first day off.

DH had cracked wisdom tooth removed on Friday, he's been able to eat normally (just on the one side!) and has recovered really well too.

But of course everyone is different and will have longer recovery periods also. Do not feel guilty at all about leaving baby with your MIL or DH while you recover! (and ask for plenty of ice cream from them too, goes down very easily when you have a sore mouth!!)

I took arnica pills before the op and had no bruising at all but my jaw was stiff for a couple of days.

Icecreamqueen88 · 21/01/2015 05:06

I had a wisdom tooth out last week on Thursday under local anesthetic. Took about 2 mins to take it out. was just careful with eating for the first couple of days. I just had some ibuprofen on the day of the extraction and was back to work the next day.

I did not need 'recovery time' as it was very much a non event. no visible swelling. BUt I guess I was pretty lucky that things went that smooth.

Icecreamqueen88 · 21/01/2015 05:08

but it was only one - not all of them.
