Labyrinthitis

How long (it might be piece of string I know!) do symptoms last? I was diagnosed Wednesday, given tablets for the nausea. I'm still horribly dizzy on sitting / standing.

We went for something to eat yesterday as I was getting stir crazy, but DH said I was holding onto the table like I was expecting it to fly away. Had to come home after about an hour.

I admit I'm a very bad patient. Also worried work will think I'm swinging the lead if I have to renew my Fit Note if I'm not well enough by next Wednesday. At this rate there's no way I'll be fit enough for the 1/2 mile walk to station each end, plus travelling at speed on train then sitting upright for 8 hours Confused.

I had Labyrinthitis for 10 days, but it came back for the odd few hours for a further 5 weeks. Not a nice thing to have, OP - you have my sympathy!

Opti - yes I've googled that. May have to give it a go.

Have a sick bowl handy just in case. DH has done the Epley manoeuvre with me quite a few times, but we've never attempted it when I'm in the throes of a severe attack. I think you might hurl, hence my bowl recommendation. As with Optimist, I've had mixed results but it's always helped a bit, other times a lot.

INeedSomeHelp · 25/01/2015 21:43

I've had it twice and it really is the most horrible illness. It was all I could do to crawl from the sofa to the toilet to throw up.
The first time I think I was off work for two weeks but it was longer before I felt properly well. The second time wasn't so bad and think I was only off for a week.
But I still get dizzy fairly easily and am always worried about it coming back if I get run down. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

ChippingInLatteLover · 25/01/2015 21:46

I had it about 3 years ago. It was THE single worst experience ever.

I googled. Big Mistake.

It was intense, but that part was short lived for me (for which I was extremely grateful) but the 'aftermath' lasted a good few weeks. Even now I'm not 100%.

I hadn't even heard if it prior to getting it. I had no idea what was going on. It came on suddenly one night.

I hope you feel better soon, but definitely do not rush back to work, especially with that commute.

Optimist1 · 25/01/2015 22:05

No sick bowl required when I did it, DustBunny, because I've always done it when my friend has not been having an attack. I'm so glad that I've never had it - so debilitating.

Cinnamoncookie · 25/01/2015 22:18

The first time I had it for nearly a month, recurrences last about a week. Thankfully my GP is happy for me to keep a stock of anti-nausea medication, and self-diagnose as necessary.

I'm hoping it won't be the same for you, but chocolate, especially good quality chocolate, makes my symptoms a lot worse.

DustBunnyFarmer · 25/01/2015 22:19

I was thinking more of the OP, Optimist, as she said in her last post she might give it a go.
