I've only just came to realise that salt can also be really bad for toddlers , my LO Is 2 1/2 today she has been really fussy ( she has a cold ) wouldn't eat anything I made her , so she had a nutrugrain bar ( refused her normal weetabix and a handful of blueberries for breakfast , then at lunch two pieces of bread with homemade butternut squash soup ( mainly ate bread as she was only dipping the corners in )we then went out and where on the go and my sister gave her a whole bag of ready salted walkers -this was seriously a one off treat ! She never has them , so them i made her a ' second lunch ' at her house of babybelle ham crackers tomatoes and olives she ate all of that , when we came home me and husband got a take out she ate several of our chips and a bit of sausage ,I'm prob fretting too much , but I've just woke her up to give her water. Her mouth seemed dry but she was ok. I'm a worrier at best of times . But this was just one of them days . It's all the hidden salt I'm concerned about in breakfast bar bread , then bag if crisps olives etc ??

Is this a wind up?

I suppose one day of excessive salt won't do any harm to your DC. However habituating them to salt in everything they eat is avoidable so that they have healthy eating habits in the long run & also their overall salt intake is low in early childhood. As wife to my DH with very high blood pressure, I try hard to keep the entire family on low salt. Me & DD take it quite well, mostly it's DH who moans about the too little salt when its for his sake that we are joining in on the bland foodConfused

Unfortunately almost all ready meals/snacks come with loads of hidden salt & sugar. It's so unavoidable! Don't worry, no harm done in your DD's case. Smile

Ps - try avoiding uncooked salt as its worse than cooked e.g. Crisps. When my DD was little I would sometimes give her a few rather than the whole pack. Kept her happy!

I just thought it was a bit much of an over reaction to actually be true! We've all had a first child at some point. Bad food once in a while won't kill anyone, even babies.
