Does free dental treatment in PG only apply if you have an NHS dentist?

I am probably being really thick, but everyone and all the books are banging on about free dental treatment during pregnancy. But I am sure this only applies if your with an NHS dentist.

Or do private dentist claim back to cost from the Government to something??

As I understand it, yes - only free if you have an NHS dentist.

I hope I am wrong for your sake.

Just if you have a NHS dentist I'm afraid

Sorry to disagree, but my private dentist did free checkups etc for me when I was pregnant.
However I am not sure if he was supposed to be both and just didn't have any NHS patients

Yes only if you have NHS dentist - I didn't get exemption when I was pg - I have a private dentist.

yep

I had two teeth out without paying while pregnant, and I wasn't registered with any dentist. I went to the Dental Access Centre, NHS Direct told me where my nearest one was. They do emergency work at short notice.
