Thread Worms - eliminating without drugs ?

Help! I am 16 weeks pregnant and 99% sure I have threadworms acquired from my 8 year old stepdaughter (she had been diagnosed by gp and treated with Ovax as have DH and 3yo ds)... I am awaiting sample results back from gp but he has already said if I have got them then will advise hygiene measures only due to pregnancy. I am losing my mind over this!
Has anyone actually succeeded in getting rid of threadworms without drugs? If so how long did it take and have you any tips?
And does anyone know about risks to pregnancy? I have read that they can infect your vagina and uterus too sometimes, and that sounds dangerous for baby.
Thanks for any insights!

www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Threadworms/Pages/Treatment.aspx - describes the hygiene method

I took Pripsen (piperazine, not mebendazole) when pregnant with dd2, on the advice of my consultant obstetrician. She is a very highly regarded doctor, and I know she wouldn't have let me take it if she'd been worried about it at all.

GPs are more cautious, I suppose, but honestly - I was fine, and dd2 is fine so maybe worth asking for a second opinion on that one. They actually give Ovex to pregnant women in the third world, and have seen no problems from that either - but they just wouldn't do that here (another issue altogether!).

If you're ok with sticking to hygiene, then that's obviously the most risk free of all - no, no danger to baby from worms. I think when I was pg with dd2 I was mostly in danger of losing my mind from constant cleaning and hormonal paranoia, hence my OB said 'just take the piperazine, for goodness' sake!' Wink

you can't get pripsen at the moment so that wouldnt be an option

My pharmacist told me - as I bought ovex in bulk - that her mum used to feed her a raw clove of garlic - and it worked. Worth a try?

pumpkin seeds, papaya seeds (disgusting but work), no sugar diet.
Diatomaceous earth is great for getting rid of worms but have no idea if you can take that whilst pregnant.

I read the hygiene measures and one is supposed to flush/spray vagina and anus. I have a hose attachment in my shower that is great for that. I had bladder support surgery years ago and the hose would have been great for washing that area.

The tablets only really stay in the gut so they can be used during pregnancy. The only reason it doesn't say so on the box is that it is very expensive for drug companies to do the official testing. Caveat: not a pharmacist, but this is what the pharmacist in Superdrug told me and I have taken them whilst pregnant myself on more than one occasion.
