My GP thinks I may have this and I've been reading a few threads from others affected recently.

I came across this article tonight which seems quite informative.

I remember that leaflet well - its the one I was given at hospital when I was diagnosed!!.

One problem with PCOS is that it is a very individualistic disorder and can affect each woman with it very differently.

Verity is a good UK based organisation to help women with PCOS and you may want to look at their website as well. Its www.verity-pcos.org.uk

Thanks for posting that Gillian - I haven't seen it before.

It thought it was interesting that 'although as many as one in three women in Britain has polycystic ovaries, only three-quarters of them will have symptoms of the polycystic ovary syndrome' - i.e. a quarter of women in this country.

AFAIK, it's often quoted as affecting 10 per cent of women, but maybe that just refers to women who have several of the symptoms, badly enough to seek treatment.

What kind of symptoms have you got, Gillian?

Just the wonky periods, really. I have put on weight but I don't know if the two are connected.

if it is pcos, it will prob help if you lose weight (like the leaflet says!).

I had pcos before ds was born and only conceived because I was taking metformin (which made the weight just fall off me). It seems to have come back now - last periods have been 30, then 33, then 38 days apart.

I had got a couple of pounds overweight, and I've lost about 6 pounds in the last couple of weeks by drastically cutting down on carbs. So I'm hoping things will improve this month.

Has your GP referred you to a gynaecologist?

Gillian76 · 15/10/2006 19:39

Yes Carolina, have been referred. Waiting for appointment.
