Why? The tests were negative.

Ihavenobrain · 29/12/2014 19:05

It says "A healthcare worker who returned to Glasgow from Sierra Leone last night has been confirmed as having Ebola."

I wouldn't worry. The cases that have occurred in the USA and Soain were contained. I should hope that it will remain what it is, an isolated case of a returning person from an area that is in the risk zones.

Sad for the patient but really don't panic you are more likely to die of flu.

meditrina · 29/12/2014 22:15

If you actually catch Ebola, you are far more likely to die of it than to die from flu if you have that. But you are very much more likely to catch flu than to be at risk from Ebola (which requires direct body fluid contact). So far more people will die in UK of flu than of Ebola.

It seems she is an HCP, returing from volunteering in Sierra Leone. She is currently stable and will shortly be transferred to Royal Free in London.

Officials have long predicted there would be one or more returing traveller cases here before the end of the year, and that if swiftly identified and isolated the risk of secondary infections would be extremely low.
