Ebola case in Glasgow

We have a fantastic NHS though, so sure there is no need to worry. Hope those on the plane with him arent at risk though.

As he was a health worker I would have thought that it would be advisable for him to have been screened prior to leaving Africa Confused.

I hope he pulls through and hasn't passed it anyone else.

I am not entirely sure when he arrived, when he would have been infectious and how much of a risk he was on the flight anyone knowledgeable?

They're prepared for this. Apparently the risk is tiny and people are being contacted if they need to be.

"A healthcare worker who returned to Glasgow from Sierra Leone last night has been confirmed as having Ebola. They returned to Scotland via Casablanca and London Heathrow, arriving into Glasgow Airport on a British Airways flight at around 11.30pm. The patient was admitted to hospital early this morning after feeling unwell and was placed into isolation at 7.50am."

And she may not have been feeling unwell whilst travelling? The report says she went to hospital this morning as she began to feel unwell. I'd have thought that as a health worker she'd be aware of the symptoms and the necessary precautions and so has reported to hospital as soon as she's noticed symptoms.

The report doesn't say what stage she's at but I'm going to guess very early stages.

I know last time I was poorly (Obviously not with ebola) that I went to bed feeling fine and woke up next morning with a raging headache, temperature, etc.

AFAIK, you are only contagious when the symptoms start, so other passengers may not be at risk.

Exactly. Felt fine travelling, symptoms developed overnight, reported to hospital this morning.

And, I may be wrong so correct me if I am, but aren't the early stages only mildly contagious? The more the disease progresses, the more contagious it becomes so you'd be more likely to catch it from someone in the later stages than the early stages?

I am full of admiration for these brave health workers who have headed out to Sierra Leone etc to help with Ebola. They deserve medals (and our unqualified thanks). Hopefully she'll get excellent treatment here and will recover after no doubt a horrible time.

Hmm at the suggestion she should not have been allowed to travel.

Assuming this health worker has been over to help those with Ebola, this is a woman who missed her Christmas to help others. A woman who risks her life to help others, while I was sat on my fat arse with my husband, eating turkey and watching my son open presents in my safe home with the NHS a mere phone call away if I needed them.

I welcome her with open arms to Glasgow, I hope she gets the best of healthcare and makes a full recovery.

Apparently Ebola isn't that easy to catch. But it is a bugger if you do get it, so here's hoping this brave and selfless woman makes a full recovery.
