one in jaw and one on head. head one has been there for a while but has grown quite big and jaw one has been there but have tried to ignore it. It is quite painful now..... hoping it's from a bad tooth as there is one there but dentist is waiting for it to come out on its own accord.
I am abit worried. dh and cuz say to go to docs...

not sure about the head but if the lump in your jaw is accompanied by bad taste in mouth/tenderness/swelling sounds like an abcess from the bad tooth. Do a mouthwash with salty water hot as you can take it. If not - yes a trip to the docs. I have never been to the docs so often since I had the kids!

thanks midden, willl try that. I know I had an infection in the tooth before, hoping thats what it is, it's at the side of my neck.
I try to avoid the docs as much as i can tho.

champs, could they be sebaceous cysts? I have had them in just those places - do they move around slightly under the skin?

The one on my head I had removed by GP but the one on my jaw had to be done in hospital - very carefully - because it was close to the parotid (?) artery and nerve and they didn't want me bleeding to death at the Health Centre.

janh, yes the one under jaw sort of moves around under skin. the one on my head more on the outside.

the one under jaw hurts now . must admit, i am terrified.

champs, the one on top of my head (slightly to the R) only hurt when I leaned on the car window - in the driver's seat - IYKWIM! I had a local anaesthetic for that one, had to have the area shaved and the hair grew back a bit funny but it was fine afterwards. The cyst looked like fish roe - about the size of a broad bean.

The jaw one I had to have a GA for and I still have a scar, from the angle of the jaw running downwards. (Can't remember if it hurt much - it never got pressed like the head one.) It was uncomfortable afterwards but is fine now.

Have you ever had any surgery? Before the jaw lump op I had had 4 C sections (3 epidurals, 1 GA), wisdom teeth extraction (GA), the head lump (local) and a "breast mole" (fibroidenoma?) removed (local) so it wasn't a big deal for me.

If you've never had anything like that before then of course you will be scared. Waking up after a GA is worse than going to sleep IME. You just have to trust everybody concerned. Go and see your GP to find out what the lumps are - please email me via mumsnet if you want to talk!

If they are sebaceous cysts, then it's quite common for more of them to appear. More on scalp etc... People that are prone to them can get quite a lot on their head. (I am a hairdresser) They are to do with sebum (oil) that is produced within the pores getting blocked. Once they are removed from the scalp they will leave a small round scar where the hair follicles have been lost with it. They aren't a massive problem just more of a pain.

thanks jan, I have had op wen i was 4 (GA) and tooth surgery when teen (GA) none when older. I refused to have wisdom tooth out when was 20 cos didnt want to be put to sleep. I am also very overweight and the risks of GA are higher.

I will get it looked at by dentist an gp before I run away with myself tho. I just hope it is a simple abscess.
As for one on head I think it may be a SC. it dosen't hurt unless I stick it with my hair dryer (ouch!!)
did you have the injection in your head??!! maybe i shouldn't hear answer
thanks for offer, will contact you.

thanx for info samwifewithkid, hope you're right.
