HS is a pain in the ass, literally. I am interested to find out how many people who use MN have this condition, or suffer from the symptoms but have not been diagnosed.

the symptoms include multiple or recurrent boils, abcess'or leissions(sp) in the groins, arm pits and under breasts

I have suffered from this for 13 years and have at the very least, 3 abcess' on the go at any one time.

HS is classed as an orphan disease and as such gets very little in the way of funding for research. However, I feel that if HS was more widely recognised and diagnosed this would not be the case.

the symptoms are very commom esp in women. please tell me your experiences and treatments that have been used. Give me ammo to fight for some relief.

surgery is my next option and i would rather give that a miss

My simple suggestion is Aloe Vera.

Drink Aloe Vera Gel (not juice) and use Aloe Vera jelly topically on your skin. Should be gone in a week or two.

What have you got to lose? It sounds like you have tried everything else.

I would also suggest cutting out Aspartame from your (and everyone you know) food as it is toxic and causes skin problems.

generaldogsbody1 · 19/10/2006 23:35

Gm, can i drink it during pregnancy?

Hi GeneralDogsbody. I've had this for years, probably about the same length of time as you.

It's never been accurately diagnosed - just repeatedly called a 'staph' infection. The many courses of antibiotics prescribed have done nothing.

I have the stage 3, where abscesess are linked by tunnel, so they never fully clear. Mine are armpit, groin and backside. After time it got to the point where that I could lance them pretty easily as they were so many pits and weak spots because I'd had so many there before, which helped manage the pain. I've had some the size of my fist .

Having said that it cleared up a great deal during pregnancy and has been a great deal better for a couple of years.

I have a lot of scarring (midwife was horrified!!), but as I've been in remission for a couple of years the scarring is improving.

OMG, I quite clearly suffered from this for a couple of years in the early 90's. I had boils continuously, couldn't sit down properly, couldn't sleep because they throbbed. Had one the size of a golf ball in my arm pit! I still have a scar on my leg the size of my thumbnail from one which went septic and green. Problem was I was in Brazil without private medical insurance. Eventually it got so bad that I queued for 3 days (yes 3 days) to see the Dr - his surgery was in a garage - only to be told I was either allergic to the food, weather or economy WTF!!! He said if I wasn't allergic to penecillin then to have a couple of shots of that, he gave me a prescription and I had to go the the pharmacy get all the stuff (syringe etc) and inject myself...I refused and got a nurse to give me the first shot and refused the second. I have no idea how to inject myself, do you?

this is really interesting. I used to have this as a pain int he butt but it cleareed up when I passed pubery! The only time I suffer now is with pg, when I come out with bad ulcers on mg legs - unexplainable, wonder if it is related. Since I never plan on never getting pg agan, I dwhen it was eventally offered (3rd pg) I didn't bother pursuing a dx, so I'm not a lot help in provviding any help. ABs proveded some relief, but I do have horrendous scarring from it. aloe vera did nothing. I wonder if soem sort of steriod cream eud be better.

Guitarman · 20/10/2006 15:05

GDB, Yes you can. It is a natural product with no known side effects other than making you better. Do a search for Dr. Peter Atherton, he's a world leader in Aloe info.

Gm.

LemonTart · 20/10/2006 15:13

Aloe Vera is fantastic - recommend it too. Also great for children as is so natural and safe. It doesn?t stain clothing, doesn?t really smell..brilliant stuff. Good for all skin probs including burns and scars. Worked wonders for my sisters c/section scarring, my dad?s knee op scars, my DD when she burnt her hand to name but a few recent uses!
I suffer mildly from this and use Aloe Vera which def helps symptoms heal faster and stop scarring.

generaldogsbody1 · 20/10/2006 21:51

Bump again. Any one else?

I'm going to get some aloe vera tomorrow. Want to hold out for a bit longer before i get some AB's' Really pi++ing me off now.

Guitarman

How much Aloe Vera Gel should you drink each day, as it is very expensive?

slaughterfalls · 21/10/2006 09:33

Oh I see, it does last 3 months, thats good

zlink{http://www.naturallyyours.me.uk/gel.htm\here}

That website also do the Aloe Vera Gelly, took me a while to find that as it is spelt with a 'G' not 'J'

slaughterfalls · 21/10/2006 09:34

here

Guitarman · 21/10/2006 20:55

That's the stuff I drink. It sorted out my creaking bones and all sorts of things.

When you work it out, it is the best value on the block. H&B have a juice but it is not as 'pure' as that one and capsules are a waste of time.
They recommend a 30ml dose, I mix it in Fresh Orange Juice before breakfast. YUM! (Not Squash, that might have E951 in)

slaughterfalls · 21/10/2006 21:00

I will definatly give it a go, as I developed gum disease while carrying dts, (something to do with a huge hormone imbalance apparently) and it says aloe vera is good for gum health, so I might be able to kill 2 birds with one stone.

Ahhhh, but just thought, I also have an underactive thyroid, so will have to find out if I can take it first.

Guitarman · 21/10/2006 21:12

I've just done a search for 'Aloe Thyroid' on Yahoo. It looks like you can, so long as you're not on Worfrine.

Aloe Vera Toothgel on that site as well.

slaughterfalls · 21/10/2006 22:19

Oooh thanks Guitarman, did'nt notice the tooth gel.

Smurfgirl · 21/10/2006 22:33

After looking this up on the internet I think my dp may have this, hmm.

generaldogsbody1 · 23/10/2006 20:22

slaughterfalls · 25/10/2006 21:42

My Aloe Vera products arrived today (got a free lip balm and sachet of heat lotion too)so am keeping my fingers crossed for some relief.
Thanks for the recommendation Guitarman

slaughterfalls · 26/10/2006 19:25

I spoke to my mum this evening, as she suffers from this too, she knew all about it {thanks for telling me mum) her 2 brothers also suffer with it and they swear by yeast tablets, they have been taking them for years and are clear of the lumps, but they reappear if they stop, thought I would pass it on as it might be worth a go.

Stormie · 17/07/2007 15:19

Please if there is anyone out there that can help me with my serious problem of hydradinitis that I have been dealing with for so long contact me at [email protected] I would really appricate it because I am at my end of the rope with this and do not want to go for surgery again if I can prevent it.

generaldogsbody1 · 17/07/2007 21:31

Hi stormie, have you asked Gp or dermatoligist about going on to the pill, one with androgens in it? I can't remember off the top of my head which type or names. Still no surgery for me. Only forces the buggers to find a new path imho. Hope that you get some relief. Mail me at [email protected]
